An 8K Texture Pack Mod is Now Available for Valheim

Valheim’s immersive glimpse at the Norse afterlife is something players have enjoyed since the game was first declared a viral hit. 

However, the level of immersion in the game takes a hit due to its visual style; it’s not bad, but there is no denying that it could be better. Thankfully, there is now a solution that brings pretty impressive results: Willybach’s HD Valheim mod. 

Willybach is a skilled modder who, earlier this year, made a handy Custom Textures mod for Valheim, and just like Custom Textures, their HD mod does not disappoint. 

The mod comes in four categories – High Quality, Medium Quality, Compatibility Version, and Performance Version – with High, Medium, and Compatibility consisting of a mix of 4K and 2K assets and Performance comprising 1K or lesser. 

For those not in the know, the numbers you just read pertain to resolution: 1K is 720 pixels, 2K is 1080p (Full HD), and 4K is 2160p. What Willybach’s mod does is bring a jaw-dropping overhaul of Valheim’s textures by scaling the resolution (depending on your PC setup) up to a crazy 8K. 

So naturally, if you have a high-end PC, you should go for the High-Quality version that will give you access to these insane textures. A couple of steps down from there, you get 4K and 2K textures with Medium and Compatibility. If you have a moderately advanced setup, then it’s onto Performance mode with 1K if you have an entry-level setup.

The chart above shows what you can get out of each version. The 8K textures are limited to terrain and only come with the High-Quality version of the mod as the mod is still a work-in-progress. Particular creatures and animals will still use the game’s default textures along with the Ocean and Mountain biomes. 

However, the overall result is still much better than that of the mods that have preceded Willybach’s.

For those looking to make an exciting change to their Valheim experience, this mod makes for a fantastic addition. Naturally, it is entirely free to download on Nexus Mods, so players who have the setup to load such detailed textures should not miss out.
