Transfer of Cyberpunk 2077 Trophies from PS4 to PS5 Not Possible

CD Projekt Red is finally getting Cyberpunk 2077 to the point of being an end-to-end playable experience. The latest update, Patch 1.5, adds some significant fixes and is looking to address any remaining issues lingering in the game. It also brings the next-gen update for the game, but PlayStation 4 users upgrading to the PlayStation 5 will notice one very serious issue.

The developers have noted on their website that trophies earned when playing the PS4 version of the game on a PS5 will not transfer to the PS5 version once the upgrade is initiated. This would mean players will have to earn these trophies all over again, which can be quite the problem, especially for trophies that take a while to acquire.

CDPR stated this issue is because the PS5 version of the game has a different Stock Keeping Unit (SKU), and so trophies are non-transferrable.

The strange thing is, the recent update allows PS4 users to transfer their saves onto the PS5 version, but not the trophies. The update also brings a host of fixes and improvements and adds content to the game as well, making it a very significant patch for Cyberpunk 2077.

With regards to the PS4 version, players will find that the file size on the system has been cut in half with this new update. The file size on the PS4 has now dropped to 59GB from the original 100GB. However, the visual quality of the game has been downgraded to allow for smoother performance on the older generation system.

CD Projekt Red has shown how the game will look running on the next-generation consoles through videos for both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S. The game looks visually stunning as both systems will now show the game at 4K resolution with dynamic scaling and ray tracing, along with several other minor visual improvements.

Sadly, this update has come out when two of the most anticipated games of 2022 are about to release: Horizon Forbidden West on February 18th and Elden Ring on February 25th. Still, it is nice to see CDPR working hard to make sure people can enjoy Cyberpunk 2077, and the game will be waiting for those once the new-game fever of the other two dies down.

About Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt, based on video game designer Mike Pondsmith’s game series.

Set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of “V,” a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as “Night City,” where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic “bio-chip” containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V’s mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V’s life.
