PlayStation Finally Reveals the Next-Gen PSVR Controllers!

PlayStation has finally revealed the PSVR2 controllers to the world. These new pieces of hardware will do everything possible with DualSense along with a host of other features as well.

PlayStation has earlier stated that they are working to bring in the next stage of the PSVR. While they didn’t release a lot of info, PlayStation did confirm that the PSVR2 won’t be released before the end of 2021. They have however given us a first look at what the new controllers will look like on the PlayStation Blog and even divulged some of the features they will possess.

The blog states that the controllers will incorporate all the features introduced by the DualSense controllers, such as the haptic feedback and the adaptive triggers. It will also add finger touch detection which means users won’t need to press buttons or move an analog stick to register their hand gestures as the controller will be able to sense them automatically.

The design of the controllers is also radically different from what is currently being used. The orb shape will wrap all the way around the user’s wrist. This “allows you to hold the controller naturally, while playing with a high degree of freedom” says PlayStation’s Senior Vice President, Hideaki Nishino.

There are no constraints with how you’re moving your hands, providing developers with the ability to create unique gameplay experiences.

Other than some of the complaints regarding drifts, the PS5’s DualSense controllers have received overwhelming praise as innovative breakthroughs by whoever has had the chance to use them. So, any PlayStation hardware which uses its features as base to build upon will be readily welcomed by the PSVR community.

Nishino also stated that prototypes of the controllers will soon be sent out to developers. “What matters now is how game creators will take advantage of the features to design the next generation of VR experiences,” he says. The faster devs get their hands on these controllers, the sooner we can expect development for PSVR2 games to begin!
