Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is Coming to PS4 and PS5 as Per ESRB

Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima was easily one of the best games to come out in 2020. From the creators of Sly Racoon and inFamous came a samurai epic worthy of the tag Kurosawa-esque.

The game has received high praise and several accolades so far and is now all set to get the director’s cut treatment. In fact, it even has a dedicated Kurosawa mode! An age rating for this new version has shown up on the ESRB website, showing that it is coming to both PS4 and PS5.

There are many ways by which an unannounced game’s release gets leaked ahead of the official announcement.

One of these is when it receives a rating from a governing body. Much like movies, games also need to be age-rated, and in the US, that rating is shared by the ESRB. This is how news of the Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut release has been leaked.

The game is carrying a Mature rating, just like the regular version. The title has also been listed as both a PS4 and a PS5 game. The original release initially on PS4 was one of the first games to get the visual enhancement update for the PS5. Now, it seems a full PS5 version of the game is slated for release.

This news comes hot on the heels of the news that the game will be getting some DLC and may also be making its way onto other platforms, such as PC. The rumors around the DLC hints that the title of the expansion is Ghost of Ikishima. Neither the name nor the actual DLC has been confirmed by PlayStation or Sucker Punch, so we’ll have to wait to know on that front.

If Ghost of Tsushima does get a director’s cut, it will follow the path of Death Stranding. It was announced during Summer Games Fest this year that the latest Kojima game will be getting a director’s cut and is rumored to have new stealth elements. But unlike Tsushima, the director’s cut of Death Stranding is going to be a PS5 exclusive.

Sucker Punch and PlayStation are yet to announce the director’s cut for Ghost of Tsushima officially, but given that it has gotten an ESRB rating already, the announcement shouldn’t be too far off.
