PSVR 2’s Eye Tracking Technology to Take Immersion to the Next Level

When Sony promised to usher in a new era of virtual reality with the highly-anticipated PSVR 2, it wasn’t kidding as, according to a recent happening in the gaming sphere, PlayStation VR fans are in for a treat. Why, you may ask?

Sony has partnered with Tobii, a pioneer of attention computing, to utilize its eye-tracking technology for the PSVR 2’s headset. The confirmation of this news makes Tobii the first company Sony has joined hands with for the development of its upcoming new-gen virtual reality headset.

PlayStation VR 2 establishes a new baseline for immersive virtual reality entertainment and will enable millions of users across the world to experience the power of eye-tracking.

The fact that Tobii has previously ventured out to provide eye-tracking tech to arguably one of the finest titles in Microsoft Flight Simulator speaks volumes of how capable the company is for delivering on the promises Sony has made.

If you are unaware of what eye-tracking capabilities are capable of achieving, Sony has boasted about it all on the PlayStation website.

By detecting the motion of users’ eyes, the headset allows for increased emotional response and enhanced expression when coming across fellow gamers online. Moreover, eye-tracking cameras also act in accordance with your line of sight when aiming or looking around to “pinpoint and enhance whatever you’re focusing on.”

While PSVR 2 is yet to receive a release date, it’s good to see Sony drip-feeding details about the forthcoming VR system time and again. Hopefully, the Japanese giant will shed light on games compatible with the eye-tracking system next time it embraces the internet.

As for when PSVR 2 would launch, a PlayStation Blog post for The Walking Dead mistakenly leakedthat Sony’s next step in VR offering can hit the shelves by early 2023.

But again, it’s always better to wait for official announcements, and it goes without saying that any speculation on PSVR 2’s release should be taken with a pinch of salt.
