Visage, one of the best first-person psychological survival horror video games out there is now all set to leave early access and launch properly by the end of October.
Many will remember the insane amount of traction when it was first introduced to all of us through a Kickstarter campaign.
After seeing how the game took hefty ounces of inspiration from horror phenomena like P.T., Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and even some lesser-known yet equally fantastic games like Phantasmagoria, the game was funded by over 3000 people and raised almost USD 84K!
But that was only the beginning of it.
What followed on Steam’s early access was a psychological and surreal horror experience that aims to bend the minds of its players on a visceral level.
On a surface level, it is undoubtedly reminiscent of Resident Evil 7 and P.T., where the player finds themselves stuck in a house with a lot of bad history attached to it.
But, when things start to spiral out of control and trust me, it spirals out hard, a realization hits that this game is so much more than a simple clone of the previously mentioned titles. Here’s the game’s announcement trailer to give you an idea of what I’m talking about:
Personally, my biggest love-hate thing about this game is its world and the environment. Why, you ask? Well, it’s because it’s too damn realistic!
Let me explain the world, and the player’s surroundings in this game are drawn to near-perfection and realism, which I love.
That level of realism and perfection brings a small yet strange sense of comfort, making the player feel safe despite everything pointing otherwise.
But that’s what the best or the scariest part of the game is. That sense of comfort converts into an ominous feeling so slowly that it keeps us at the edge of our seats, and when the real horror of the game strikes, it feels like a real blow to the psyche.
In my opinion, that game design is a stroke of genius, especially for survival horror, which is why everyone who loves horror video games should certainly try this one out.
