You No Longer Need an FB Account for Meta Quests Starting Next Month

Meta is set to change a rather controversial requirement that was the main obstacle between many enthusiasts and its VR offerings – mandatory Facebook accounts.

Currently, users require a Facebook profile to log into Quest VR headsets, which is an obligation not everyone is comfortable with. But thankfully, this compulsion will cease to exist next month.

Starting August, one would no longer need a Facebook account to log into Quest. Instead, every Quest user will have to create a new Meta account and Meta Horizon profile to use the headset going forward when it rolls out next month.

In addition to this, Meta added that all the users who logged into its VR headsets through an Oculus account will be allowed to do so until January 1, 2023.

From there on, a meta account will be required to access the Quest or any future Meta device.

It’s also worth mentioning that if your Facebook and Oculus accounts were merged, you’ll have the choice of uprooting Facebook entirely from the Meta account setup process.

A Meta account lets you log into Meta VR devices, while a Facebook account lets you use Facebook. You can add your Meta and Facebook accounts to Accounts Center to get access to connected experiences, such as using Messenger in VR

As for all your achievements, friends, purchases, and other related info, they will be transferred, so you don’t end up losing your progress. With Facebook no longer standing between you and the VR experience, diving into Meta offerings through this new door should be a lot more comfortable than before.
