New PS5 Patch for Spiderman: Miles Morales Improves Ray Tracing

Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales has the privilege of being the very first title for Sony’s new-gen PlayStation 5. Developed by the Insomniac Games, Miles Morales launched in November 2020 and came well-equipped to use PS5’s capabilities to its fullest extent through two play modes.

These two modes were Performance and Fidelity mode. Performance mode allows players to swing across New York City in 4K at 60fps, while Fidelity mode prioritizes graphics over performance with 4K running at a cut-down but sufficient 30 fps.

Insomniac then added the Performance RT graphics mode that renders the game at 60 FPS with ray tracing, and you can see below, the results are pretty damn spectacular.

Insomniac’s latest update for PS5, Version 1.10, brings enhancements for this very mode by improving ray tracing. The patch also brings a bunch of other fixes to the game, as you can see from the patch notes below:

  • Global stability fixes and performance improvements
  • Improvements to ray-traced reflection quality in the Performance RT graphics mode
  • Fix for an issue with motion blur on certain pedestrians

Version 1.10 is the first update to arrive for Spiderman: Miles Morales in the last three months.

The previous update, Version 1.09, delivered the Advanced Tech Suit and some general fixes and improvements to the game. The update also added ZivaRT support to some of the game’s suits which gave Miles dramatically improved muscle deformation.

This makes a Spidey look a whole lot more realistic when he’s suited up.

According to observations made by The Gamer, Insomniac’s emphasis on improved graphics could be due to the praise it received for its most recent title, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

The game dropped as a PS5-exclusive last month and was lauded for its detailed visuals and gorgeous ray tracing.

The game was also used as a benchmark to showcase the PS5’s capabilities during the console’s launch and could indicate Insomniac’s approach to graphics and visuals for future titles.

Version 1.10 for Spiderman: Miles Morales on PS5 has already been deployed and should be available to download for players.

About Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a 2020 action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PS4 and PS5. Based on the Marvel Comics superhero Miles Morales, it is inspired by both the character’s almost decade-long comic book mythology and the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which helped to popularize him.

The game is the second installment in Marvel’s Spider-Man series, following Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018), and depicts Miles’ struggle to balance the duties of his civilian persona and Spider-Man when his new home, Harlem, is threatened by a war between the Roxxon Energy Corporation and the Tinkerer’s high-tech criminal army, the Underground.
