Resident Evil Village dropped earlier this year to favorable reviews from critics and gamers alike. The game revived a struggling Resident Evil franchise and even went on to become its most successful outing to date.
And now, the game has received yet another honor: a place in PlayStation’s Editor’s Choice library.
At the moment, PlayStation’s Editor’s Choice library is home to 64 of Sony’s best games ranging from indie titles to AAA releases.
Last year, the library welcomed Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part 2, so RE Village finds itself in some esteemed company.
It is also interesting to note that RE Village isn’t the first game from Capcom’s survival horror series to be included in this library. Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 are also members of this somewhat exclusive collection.
Additionally, RE Village was also the Player’s Choice Game of the Month in May 2021.
Games lists aside, RE Village is also a darling to the modding community.
While there are mods that bring a few handy improvements to the game, there are more than a few that add some seriously wacky elements to its gothic setting, including Thomas the Tank Engine, Ghostface from Scream, Spongebob Squarepants, and more.
The game has also found itself to be the subject of controversy this year. Capcom has been accused of plagiarising content for RE Village and other titles by two different parties – one a filmmaker and the other a photographer.
So far, Capcom has kept mum on these accusations. But there is no doubt that the photographer’s $12 million lawsuit could create some turbulence for them in the near future.
