Resident Evil 2 now Capcom’s 3rd Best-Selling Game

When Capcom revealed it’s updated sales figures for their most popular titles last month, the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 pulled ahead to become the publishers 3rd best-selling game of all time.

First revealed by Kitguru, the Resident Evil 2 Remake is tied with Resident Evil 5 in terms of total sales as stated on Capcom’s Platinum Titles list. Both games currently have 7.8 million sales each, placing them both in the third spot. Second place is occupied by Resident Evil 7: Biohazard with 8.5 million sales and the top-selling game is Monster Hunter: World at an incredible 16.8 million sales.

Capcom’s ‘Platinum Titles List’ is made up of the biggest and best titles from the publisher, each of them selling over a million copies. Some of the franchises found on the list are Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Street Fighter and Monster Hunter, along with much older titles such as Mega Man and Dino Crisis. So, for Resident Evil 2 to be tied for the 3rd best-selling spot is a massive feat.

How long the title retains this position is up for debate though, as two big releases are coming up very soon. One is an addition to the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil Village, coming out on May 7th. A recently revealed trailer and gameplay demo have caused quite a stir in the fandom and the hype train is already going full-steam ahead.

The second title slated for release on March 26th is Monster Hunter Rise, a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Just like with Resident Evil Village, the announcement of the game’s demo got the player base so hyped that it caused a slowdown on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

We’re just two months into 2021 and it already looks like it’s going to be a massive year for Capcom.
