Resident Evil Village: Solving the Castle Dimitrescu Five Bell Puzzle

The eerie and bone-chilling atmosphere of Resident Evil Village offers a very adrenaline-filled gaming experience. Sadly, this satisfactory feeling can be easily ruined when the game hits you with a challenging puzzle to solve in order to progress in the game and continue the storyline.

The Five Bell Puzzle in the Castle Dimitrescu poses one such challenge. Aimlessly looking around the room, smashing your controller’s keys to find out some hidden door can get dull unless you know what the puzzle is and how to solve it? Here is a detailed guide to help you solve the five bell puzzle and rescue your gaming experience.

1. Where to Find the Five Bell Puzzle?

After defeating two or all of the Dimitrescu Daughters while searching for the four masks, you will find the small Atelier while running away from Lady Dimitrescu. The five bells puzzle is located in this Atelier. The space can be identified by the massive portrait of Lady Dimitrescu on one of the walls.

In the room, you will find a note stuck on a miniature painting on a stand in the middle of the room. The note reads as “Let the five bells of this chamber ring out.” This sets up the puzzle, to solve which you have to ring or strike the five bells present in or visible from the same room more or less.

Once you hit a bell, it produces a flame to represent that you have rung that particular bell. The puzzle is quite simple to solve, but finding all the five bells in a small, untidy, damp room can still be troublesome.

Also, the five bells drawn on the painting are not the ones you have to ring, Sherlock! Here is a detailed guide on locating all the bells and solving the five bell puzzle.

2. The Bell on The Table

The first bell is relatively easy to locate. It is a large bell, sitting on a small table, located on the left side of the room, near a couple of statues.

It is the only bell present at a reachable height for the character, so I recommend using your knife to strike and ring it in order to reserve your ammo. The bullets are very precious for this puzzle as you will need at least 4-5 shots to ring all the bell and complete the puzzle.

3. The Bell on Top of the Old Cabinet

This bell is also an obvious one to find. There is an old cabinet immediately on the hard right of the entrance door of the room. A framed art piece is hanging right over it. You can find the bell sitting on top of this cabinet. Shoot the bell to ring it.

4. The Bell Among the Machine Cogs

You must have already seen this one. Right when you enter the room, you will see a Giant bell swinging back and forth among huge machine cogs, visible from the openings made in the wall opposite of the entrance door. You have to shoot the bell from these openings.

This can be a little tricky, so use the enormous gap in the middle and time your shot well to save your ammo. The bell will make a ringing noise and light up in flames to tell you that you have hit it.

Three done, two to go. The locations of the remaining two bells are a little tricky to locate.

5. The Bell Outside the Chamber

This one is low-key unfair as this bell is not in the chamber. Walk onto the stairs on the left side of the room from the entrance. Look to your right; there is a windowpane which is the only source of outside light in the room. You can see a bell tower outside through this window. Shoot the bell to mark it.

6. The Hidden Bell in Chandelier

You just shot the bell outside; from these very stairs, hit the chandelier hanging in the center of the room to make it swing quick.

This will reveal a hidden bell on top of the chandelier, time your shot to ring the bell in one hit. That’s it! You just completed the five bell puzzle.

7. Explore the Now Revealed Hidden Space

Ringing all the five bells from the room will reveal a hidden space. It turns out the giant portrait of the tall Lady Dimitrescu is a door, and you can proceed to the next area of the game, which is the rooftop of the Castle Dimitrescu.
