Riot Games and Bungie File Joint Lawsuit Against Cheat-Maker

A cheating software creator is facing a joint lawsuit from Riot Games and Bungie. The creator is being sued for producing and selling hacks for Valorant and Destiny 2.

There have been many instances where gaming companies have sued cheat-makers for messing with their games. It is not something new. But it’s the first time that two major game studios have teamed up for something like this. Valorant developer, Riot Games and Destiny 2 developer have filed a lawsuit against a cheat-maker in California.

Riot Games and Bungie have filed a joint lawsuit against GatorCheats and its creator Cameron Santos in the Central District of California court. In the lawsuit, the studios are seeking an injunction from the court.

The lawsuit mentions that Valorant and Destiny 2 are free to play, which means that Riot Games and Bungie earn their revenue by selling virtual in-game items. That system can be successful if the games can attract and maintain large audiences willing to invest their money to “enhance their experience.” The studios have claimed in the lawsuit that the presence of cheats works against their business model.

BUNGIE SUES CHEAT SITE WITH RIOT GAMES!

In the lawsuit, Riot Games and Bungie state that if players think others are cheating or have some unfair advantage, they will get frustrated with the games and stop playing. That would eventually lead to more players leaving the game. In turn, that would affect the studios’ ability to generate revenue.

Interestingly, the suit has mentioned that Bungie served a cease-and-desist to GatorCheats’ owner Cameron Santos in November 2020. Santos agreed to remove the Destiny 2 cheats from his site but continued to provide support for previously sold copies of the cheat. Bungie has also alleged that Santos is violating the cease-and-desist order by selling the cheats privately.

Riot Games and Bungie seek an injunction from the court, meaning putting a stop to the distribution of Valorant and Destiny 2 cheats and ending the support for any existing copies of the GatorCheats software. Furthermore, they have requested a full accounting of all GatorCheats sales in the US, all the proceeds earned from the sale of the software, and various sorts of damages and attorney fees.
