Screenshots of Crysis 2 Remastered Reportedly Teased

The first-person shooter franchise Crysis first debuted in 2007 and received widespread praise by critics and players. Now, it seems that developer Crytek is looking to revive the trilogy, starting with the release in 2020 of Crysis Remastered. Unfortunately, despite the graphical improvements, the game didn’t meet the player’s expectations.

However, the negative feedback about the previous game does not seem to have given Crytek any reason for pause. In January, Crytek had uploaded a job listing on their site, which asked for a game designer to work on a AAA sandbox game. As is the case whenever a studio puts out a job listing, rumors had already begun to circulate as to what Crytek may be working on. Some speculated it might be a VR version of Crysis, while others thought it might be a new franchise altogether.

On 20th May, Thursday, Crytek put out two cryptic tweets which teased the possibility of Crysis 2 Remastered, with the first tweet simply stating, “They used to call me Prophet.” The line is from a very memorable and dramatic moment in the game’s introductory cinematic sequences. The second tweet just had the emoji of eyes wide open, suggesting that people should be on the lookout for more news. This second tweet was also published with the screenshot of a soldier wearing a military Nanosuit and was put out from the official Crysis Twitter account.

The replies under this tweet show that many fans are taking this to be confirmation of Crysis 2 Remastered being in development, and many are excited about this idea. A glance through the previous reviews of the 10-year-old game shows that Crysis 2 was considered by fans to be their favorite installment in the trilogy. The game was praised for having graphics ahead of its time, an engaging story, a beautiful soundtrack, and polished gameplay.

But, if the reception of Crysis Remastered – with its improved lighting, raytracing functionality, and 8K textures – is anything to go by, previous high ratings and graphics overhauls don’t guarantee a good score for a remaster. Players are also expecting an upgrade in gameplay, responsive AI, and no performance issues, all of which were significant problems in Crysis Remastered.

Aside from Crysis 2 Remastered, Crytek is also reportedly working on a battle royale game called Crysis Next. Not much is known about the game yet, aside from some blurry footage, and it is yet to be confirmed by Crytek. But a battle royale game would be a perfect fit in the world of Crysis with its rich lore, various weapons, and an already established fan base.

About Crysis 2 Remastered

Crysis 2 Remastered is a rumoured project still in development with Crytek studios. The game will be based on the original Crysis 2 released in 2011, and will more than likely have a graphical overhaul, along with other new-gen features. Crytek is yet to confirm the existence of this project.
