PlayStation State of Play Confirmed for July 8; Deathloop to Headline

After weeks of theorizing, speculating, and predicting, we finally have official confirmation on PlayStation’s much-anticipated State of Play event.

The event will stream tomorrow, July 8, at 2 PM (PT), 5 PM (ET), and 11 PM (CEST). Various leakers correctly predicted this date for the event, but it seems that they got the event’s focus wrong.

The 30-minute event will focus on indie games and third-party titles in development for PS4 and PS5.

Furthermore, the show will be headlined by Bethesda’s Deathloop (PS5) through a nine-minute extended gameplay sequence where “we’ll see Colt use his abilities to stealthily skulk across rooftops… or go in guns blazing to create a whole lot of mayhem.”

Contrary to earlier predictions, the event will not feature any AAA titles. Many leakers were betting on games like Death Stranding Director’s Cut, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, or God of War: Ragnarok making an appearance at the event, but sadly that won’t be the case.

However, the State of Play announcement did reveal that more updates on God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West will arrive this summer.

One other thing that PlayStation fans won’t be seeing at the event is new info on PlayStation VR 2. Since PlayStation VR hardware will not be here until 2022, it makes sense that we won’t see any updates regarding the tech at this State of Play.

Concerning other announcements at the State of Play, Sony Japan may have leaked some information. The company recently shared a graphic that revealed PlayStation’s acquisition of Bluepoint Games, the studio behind critically acclaimed remasters like Shadow of the Colossus, the Uncharted Collection, and Demon’s Souls.

The graphic was taken down pretty quickly, and Bluepoint remains insistent that it is an independent company. Still, we might get an official update regarding the acquisition at the State of Play.

State of Play will be available to stream on Twitch and YouTube.
