Steam Deck Sees New Games Played; Hardware Applications Teased

Valve debuted its handheld PC Steam Deck last month, and the new console has been in the news (for good reasons) ever since.

According to Valve, the console will play essentially any Steam title comfortably and even connect to monitors and TVs via USBs and docking stations.

First introductions showed the console playing primarily two games, Control and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Now, as time passes, even more demanding games are finding their way to the Steam Deck.

A hands-on by The Verge features it playing The Witcher 3 and Doom Eternal in addition to Control without any issues.

Verge’s preview also shared some critical details concerning the overall feel of playing on the console. The console saw significant heating and power drain after playing for an hour and a half.

While the preview states later that the console Verge was playing on had already been used for an hour and a half prior, seeing such results only after three hours of playtime might be a matter of concern.

Valve also teased their plans for Steam Deck’s hardware.

While prospective buyers and gamers at large shouldn’t expect any Steam Deck-exclusive games to arrive, we could potentially use the console for various other purposes, such as for a standalone VR headset like the Oculus Quest.

On Steam Deck’s applications, Valve’s Greg Coomer very mysteriously said the following:

We’re not ready to say anything about it, but it would run well in [a VR] environment, with the TDP necessary… it’s very relevant to us and our future plans.

So, at launch, Valve’s handheld PC might be even more versatile than initially anticipated.

However, it will be a challenge to get your hands on one anytime soon as pre-orders are fully booked well into next year.
