Steam’s New Fest Debuts From 21st October

From the start of next week till 26th October, Steam will be holding a virtual fest, titled the Digital Tabletop Fest, that features a combination of the tabletop games of old with the digital video games.

Tabletop games have been an essential part of a lot of folks’ childhoods. Sitting in the living room or any other space with your friends and watch the hours pass by in what feels like a minute, playing the game and having a good time. There is something truly magical about the entire ordeal.

Of course, with the rise of video game accessibility, tabletop games have fallen slightly to the sidelines, turning obscure with every passing second.

Although couch multiplayer games did try to retain the tabletop games’ magic, they too are slowly falling into obsolescence.

However, Steam seems to disagree, with them now combining the tabletop games with the digital games in an exquisite virtual fest from 21st to 26th October

“A festival of virtual let’s plays, panels, talks and more streaming activities that explore the fusion between physical and digital games with legendary designers, upcoming studios, and you.”

It is to be noted that digital games and tabletop games combining are nothing new to the industry.

For example, if we think about it, all the earliest RPGs, even the JRPGs, took more than simple inspiration from the tabletop game Dungeons and Dragons.

Not to mention, there are a lot of tabletop games, now converted into a digital format for us to experience once again!

But, this is not the only thing Steam wishes to explore through this fest.

The fest will also feature game talks and interview with developers, some of the notable ones being a live stream with Elizabeth Hargrave, the designer of the physical edition of Wingspan, an interview with Doom designer Sandy Petersen, an Armello play session with developer League of Geeks, and a Vermintide 2 session featuring members of Fatshark and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay designer Graeme Davis.

All in all, it seems to be a pretty unique ordeal that I, for one, hope to see more of in the future. The fest’s page also has a reminder fitted in so that you don’t forget to miss out on it! That said, make sure to check it out as it may just be an experience of a lifetime!
