Summer Games Fest’s 2021 Edition Scheduled for June

Summer Games Fest, an all digital celebration of video games with announcements, events, and playable content will be returning for its second edition in June 2021.

Currently, not much is known with respect to attendees or announcements but as per a press release, the participating publishers and developers, as well as the event schedule, will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The Summer Game Fest made its debut last year after Geoff Keighley, host and organizer, left his previous gig as the host of E3. And since E3 2020 never took place due to the outbreak of Covid-19, Summer Games Fest ran from May to August as the primary gaming event of the year.

This year, the event promises to be a “concentrated global showcase” that may imply that the event is dialing back its scale to resemble other traditional gaming events i.e., events that famously cram all their gaming festivities into a three to four day stretch.

The announcement came soon after the Entertainment Software Association revealed that E3 2021 would be an online-only event and would be free for all attendees. The Game Developers Conference also announced three separate online events, and scheduled the traditional business and education-focused event for July.

While there isn’t much known about the event at the moment, it will be interesting to see which developers and publishers eventually send in their RSVPs.

Additionally, Summer Games Fest and E3 will be held in the same month. While this could lead to a splitting of announcements between both events, which could potentially make the both of them underwhelming, getting two separate gaming events with each bringing its own set of developments can never be a bad thing. The more the merrier, right?

As far as gaming events go, a lot of things seem up in the air for 2021. But with plenty of games yet to be revealed, you can bet that gamers have plenty to look forward to from the aforementioned events.
