Sup3r5 Cancels All Orders for Custom PS5 Due to Threats

Sup3r5, the designers of the custom all-black PS2 inspired PS5, will no longer offer the consoles to the people. They have canceled all orders for the foreseeable future.

At the end of December 2020, Sup3r5 announced on Twitter that they would be producing a limited number of unofficial PS2 themed PS5 consoles. Many people showed interest in it, considering the nostalgia that is associated with the PS2. Sup3r5 designed 500 controllers and 304 consoles, which is a minimal number considering the high demand for the PS5.

Things went south once the sale went live on January 5. Some customers complained about the issues they faced, and Sup3r5 reassured them that they would fix the issues. But later announced in a tweet that they were canceling all orders.

In a tweet, Sup3r5 cited that their team began receiving “credible threats to their safety.” Consequently, they have decided to cancel all orders and provide full refunds to people who completed their order.

Sup3r5’s announcement means that all the orders will be canceled whether purchased for personal use or not. Full refunds would be given to everyone who ordered the consoles.

After the sale began on January 5, the custom PS5s sold out in less than 20 minutes. The custom consoles would have sold out earlier, but Sup3r5’s website faced technical difficulties due to the high demand. Some customers reported that they were charged for their orders but did not receive a confirmation.

Sup3r5 stated that they were working on fixing the issues. Later, they issued a statement explaining the entire situation. They said that their team was receiving threats, so they stopped moving forward with the sale. As of now, Sup3r5 has deleted its Twitter account entirely.

In the statement that they issued, they said,

“We intended this to be a fun way to celebrate a shared nostalgia. As it turns out, there are people out there who willing to interfere with that. If we determine that it is safe to try again, we will. For now, please stay safe.”

While Sup3r5’s website is active, there have been no further updates from them. If or when they come back, it remains to be seen if they will move forward with the custom PS5 or not. In the meantime, PS5 shortages continue as scalpers continue to buy the consoles in bulk and drive-up prices.
