Gemstones are gear-enhancing materials in New World. Players can socket gems into a weapon or armor to give them passive abilities unique to the gemstone. These materials vary from common to epic rarities. The rarer a gemstone, the better passive abilities it grants.
Life Staff is the only healing weapon out of many in New World, and its primary abilities allow Doctor Strange 2 to be made even better with reshoots.
You need it to heal/protect the player and their allies. Because of this specialty, there are not many gems that can go well along with a Life Staff as gems mainly enhance the damage percentage of weapons.
Diamond is the best gemstone for the Life Staff in New World as it increases the healing and damage done by the weapon while the player wielding it is at full health. An Amber gem may also be used in a Life Staff build as it scales with Focus.
As Healers do not engage in direct combat and only heal and protect their party from the back, they have the highest possibility of always being at their full HP and taking advantage of this unique ability of diamond gem. This possibility makes diamond the most compatible gemstone for the Life Staff.
How to get the diamond gemstone in New World?
Gemstones can be obtained as a rare drop by mining Iron, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Starmetal, and Orichalcum ores in New World. Players can also try farming the Amrine Excavation expedition at level 23 to get more gems.
A rare drop such as gemstone depends on a player’s mining luck trait. Just keep mining and hope for a diamond gem drop. You can boost your mining luck by equipping a Miner’s Charm, crafting pickaxe with Azoth for enhanced luck chance, and eating potato food recipes like Roasted Potatoes, Herb-Roasted Potatoes, Boiled Potatoes, etc.
Mining generally provides raw gemstones which cannot be attached to a weapon directly. These raw gems must be refined using different required resources and motes at a stonecutting table to form a ‘cut gem’ which then can be placed in any gear with a gem socket.

How to attach a diamond to the Life Staff?
To attach a cut diamond gemstone to the Life Staff, simply drag it onto the Life Staff’s icon, and it will socket itself to the weapon. Once a gemstone is attached to a weapon, it cannot be removed.
A cut gemstone can only be attached to a weapon with a gem socket. You can check for the socket on your weapon through your character inventory page.
The chances of crafting a weapon that has a gem socket are rare. Luckily, the chances can be increased by improving your particular crafting skills. You should increase your Arcana trade skill to have a better chance at crafting a Life Staff that has a gem socket. This skill can be increased by continuously crafting items at Arcane Repository crafting Station.
