Phil Spencer Says, The Elder Scrolls VI May Be Xbox and PC Exclusive

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has spanned across three generations of consoles and is now available on many platforms. Just a matter of time before it’s announced for mobile as well. But as fun as Skyrim was in the first couple playthroughs, fans are eager to know more about the next chapter in The Elder Scrolls franchise. However, this bit of news may not be liked by everyone.

In an exclusive interview with GQ Phil Spencer, Xbox Chief, pretty much confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI will be an Xbox exclusive. While some fans had been speculating this would be the case ever since Bethesda officially joined Microsoft in March, it is still disappointing for those on non-Microsoft platforms.

Bethesda’s upcoming sci-fi game Starfield has already been confirmed to be an Xbox and PC exclusive, and “Spencer says he sees the same for The Elder Scrolls VI,” says GQ.

But in order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. And that would be true when I think about The Elder Scrolls VI. That would be true when I think about any of our franchises.

While this may be read as leaving open the possibility of The Elder Scrolls VI not being an Xbox exclusive, Spencer has been pretty clear about how Microsoft plans to bring exclusive games to Xbox as part of the Bethesda deal.

On a roundtable conference very soon after the acquisition, Spencer was quoted saying,

If you’re an Xbox customer, the thing I want you to know is that this is about delivering great exclusive games for you that ship on platforms where Game Pass exists. That’s our goal, that’s why we’re doing this, that’s the root of this partnership that we’re building.

He also mentioned exclusives in a blog post created to announce that the deal was completed.

With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players.

Considering all of this, it could very well be the case that The Elder Scrolls VI will only launch on Xbox and PC. However, we will have to wait a while before getting to know more about this highly anticipated game.
