The RTX 3070 Ti Will Come with 8GB & 16GB GDDR6X Variants

The RTX 3070 Ti Will Come with 8GB & 16GB GDDR6X Variants

Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 3070 Ti set to launch in May of this year will come in two variants – an 8GB GDDR6X and a 16GB GDDR6X. This news has also been validated by Uniko’s Hardware which confirmed not just the chip specifications but the memory variants as well. We also have reported that the memory will be clocked at 19Gbps.

The Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti is based on the GA104-400 GPU and has 6144 CUDA cores which are divided into 48 GPU clusters. This would mean that it has 2 more clusters than its non-Ti variant and 20 less than the RTX 3080. It will also feature 48 RT cores (the RTX 3080 has 68) which are also 2 more than the non-Ti variant of the 3070.

ROPs will be 96 for this segment of Nvidia’s lineup but the clock speed is yet to be confirmed. The RTX 3070 Ti will feature a 256-bit memory bus with 8GB or 16GB GDDR6X memory clocked at 19 Gbps. The card is scheduled for launch in May 2021 along with the RTX 3080 Ti, but this may change due to the volatile supply situation.

It is interesting that the RTX 3070 Ti is positioned as something of a replacement of the RTX 3070 as it is not as powerful compared to its namesake. With a difference of just 2 GPU clusters, there is only so much performance to be gained. The RTX 3080 Ti on the other hand boasts a massive difference when compared to the RTX 3080.

The RTX 3080 Ti has 12 more GPU clusters as compared to the non-TI variant of the same name, totaling at 10240 cores (2 less than the RTX 3090). It has 80 RT cores and 112 ROPs. It will be paired with a 12 GB GDDR6X vRAM buffer and a 384-bit bus for a total of 912 GB/s.

It’s quite clear by these numbers that the RTX 3080 Ti is a beast of a graphics card, and appears to be a very slightly less powerful replacement of the RTX 3090 and the true flagship of Nvidia’s ampere lineup. The RTX 3080 Ti is also set for launch in May 2021.

While all of this sounds exciting, it really depends on how many of these cards will end up in the hands of gamers and how many will either be scalped or hoarded by cryptocurrency miners.

Nvidia has been placing software blocks to limit the usage of the gaming intended GPUs for cryptomining, but a work around the block has already been found. Maybe their announcement of creating processors designed specifically for cryptomining may help reduce the excessive demand of the graphics card meant to be used for gaming.
