The US Capcom Store is Shutting Down for Good

The US leg of the Capcom Store has been active since 2000, shutting down now and again but always coming back with a redesign. This store has been the go-to one-stop-shop for all gamers to access Capcom games and official franchise related merch, which include clothing, pins, key chains, art books, collector’s editions and pre-orders for upcoming titles.

The store’s membership program awarded Membership Badges, along with Capcom Points, for all digital and physical purchases, and the points could then be exchanged for rewards such as a Street Fighter belt, a Monster Hunter: World Nergigante figure, and a Darkstalkers artbook. But all of that is now coming to an end.

Visitors to the US Capcom store will be greeted by a special message pinned at the top that says, “To our valued customers.” Clicking on this link opens a pop-up box which informs the user that the Capcom Store will be officially shutting down on May 1st 2021 and that this will also be the last day to place any orders. It also mentions that any remaining merchandise is available only in limited quantity. Many of the items in the store are marked as “Waiting List” or “No Longer Available”.

No reason has been provided by Capcom yet as to why they are shutting the store, or whether this is a permanent thing. Capcom Store USA unfortunately never lived up to the success of the Japanese version of the company’s store at e-capcom.com, with the quantity and variety of products fluctuating through the years.

It should be noted that the European Union version of the Capcom Store does not have this shutdown message, and there seems to be no plans to do so either. The EU store even has a pre-order promotion for Resident Evil Village which is going to stay active until May 6th, a day before the games release. While the Japanese store does not deliver internationally, the EU Capcom Store will ship to the US, with much higher shipping fees.

So, if you’re situated in the US and had planned on purchasing a Capcom title or really anything from the store, you better go do it soon. With limited stocks and a time-crunch as well, you may find that the items on your wish-list may be sold out sooner rather than later.
