Three Massive New Maps of Battlefield 2042 Revealed by Electronic Arts

In the middle of last month, EA announced that they decided to delay the release of Battlefield 2042 to November to further refine and polish the game for its official launch. Since then, we haven’t heard much about the game, but now EA has dropped a trailer showing some of the new environments we’ll be fighting in.

The trailer features three new maps, each of which is “specifically designed to provide a unique experience that directly impacts strategy for you and your squad.” The video is not an in-depth analysis of the maps; instead, it’s a quick overview of three distinct environments. The maps feature bits and pieces of architecture players can climb on for vantage points, something a sniper build would appreciate.

One thing common among the maps is the size, with each having “multiple combat areas,” allowing for close-quarters, long-range, and vehicular combat simultaneously.

Here’s a quick breakdown of each map that was shown in the trailer:

Renewal

Renewal: Set in the Egyptian desert, this varied landscape has a solar array Power Station on one side and a lush Research Facility on the other. There is a wall between the regions with multiple entry points, including a choke point in the middle of the map through the often contested Entry Checkpoint.

Breakaway

Breakaway: based in Antarctica, this map shows an Offshore Platform off the Frozen Coast with an Outlook Station sitting high above the battle area, making it an ideal location for aerial battles and sniper nests. On the fractured paths through the Glacier, players will fight in and above the ice cliffs that have connecting zip lines and rope bridges. The parachute will play a significant role in this map, especially for evasive maneuvers.

Discarded

Discarded: In a flooded village along India’s west coast sits a disassembled hull and a Colossus Ship to explore. This map will offer a lot of cover and chance for close-quarters combat; the Colossus Ship gives players a chance to go head-to-head with each other while airships attack from above. The unpredictable weather in this map will mean players may have a tornado hit them at any moment.

Battlefield 2042 is going to launch with a total of seven maps, including these three. More maps will be added through seasonal updates, along with new specialists.

Battlefield 2042 is slated to launch on November 19th, 2021.

About Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042 is the seventeenth installment in the Battlefield series developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts. The game is a first-person online multiplayer shooting title. This installment of Battlefield will not feature a single-player campaign mode.

The year is 2042 and the world is in ruins. Natural disasters run rampant, ocean levels have risen, the world economy has collapsed, and the US and Russia are at war. You step into the shoes of a non-patriated soldier – a soldier without a side. The games’ story will be revealed through episodic additions, allowing players to create a future for themselves and other non-pats in a world on the brink of destruction.
