Ubisoft shares cross-play details on XDefiant

Ubisoft San Francisco has finally shed some light after months of no new information. This comes in regard to the much-hyped free-to-play FPS shooter XDefiant.

This announcement comes after many “Insider Sessions” for PC players. This latest playtest broadens the testing horizons and brings the game to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Luna users, from February 16th to 20th, 2023.

Ubisoft San Francisco, under executive producer Mark Rubin, is developing XDefiant. The game, first revealed in 2021, was initially set to bring together characters across Tom Clancy’s universe. The developers, however, went silent after a behind-the-doors playtest in 2021.

Early gameplay trailers picked the brain of Blizzard’s popular Overwatch, featuring playable factions drawn from The Division, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. Eventually, the game went back to the workbench, leaving many wondering about the game’s future.

It was also clear that Ubisoft has not gone ahead with the Tom Clancy branding in March 2022. Instead, it had been diversified, and the developers opted for broader inclusion of popular Ubisoft titles.

The new recent announcement announces the crossplay from February 16th to the early morning of February 20th. The available game modes would be “Escort”,” Zone Control”, “Occupy” and “Domination.”

The four new modes will come on top of 13 new maps, including Pueblito, set in the fictional Caribbean Island of Yara from Far Cry 6.

As always, due to this event being a cross-play and console experience test, eligible signed-up users have to sign an NDA, which prohibits players from sharing clips, videos, and screenshots online.

Ubisoft is also incentivizing the players by giving away an emoji pack to those who participate in the game. This sticker pack would be an exclusive in-game XDefiant perk.

The game, which has been reworked and quite literally rebranded, is expected to provide some competition in the free-to-play shooting genre, looking to recover Ubisoft from below-expectation sales over the holidays.
