King Aelfred Quests and More Included in Valhalla Viking Discovery Tour

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has seen a fair bit of evolution since its initial release in 2007. The current trend with a massive open-world and heavier emphasis on RPG mechanics started in 2017 with Assassin’s Creed Origins. This change may have brought microtransactions to the game, but being a live service meant plenty of updates, seasonal content, and expansions.

Interactive Educational Tour Announced

Many fans do miss the original games’ old story-focused and action-heavy elements, but the Discovery Tour is something all fans agree has been a welcome addition.

Usually released as add-on content, Discovery Tour allows players to explore and experience the world during the time period of that particular Assassin’s Creed game. The experience includes guided tours, focuses on landmarks, historical figures, and way of life.

The latest version of this expansion content, Discovery Tour: Viking Age for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, is finally out today and aims to be the best one yet.

Unlike previous iterations, this Discovery Tour introduces new mechanics as players can explore the history of the Vikings and the 9th century England residents. Players will be able to unlock and play as 24 different characters like Basim, Sigurd, Odin, King Alfred of Wessex, and many more in Free Roam mode.

Discovery Tour players will also be able to take on eight interconnected narrative-based quests, each of which has an objective to complete. Completing these quests allows players to interact with Discovery Sites that will offer new information on the culture, traditions, and way of life of the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons of this period.

Images used for these segments are from collections through Ubisoft’s museum partners like the UK’s Hampshire Cultural Trust, Preston Park Museum & Grounds, York Archaeological Trust, The British Library, France’s Réunion des Musées Nationaux, and the National Museum of Denmark.

Assassin’s Creed may undergo another form of evolution with the rumored Assassin’s Creed Infinity, a live service title that will feature a semi-open world and seasonal content updates. Not much is known about the title yet, but it promises to be an exciting shift of the Assassin’s Creed paradigm.
