The offensive is one way to go about things in Valheim but when things get hairy you need to be able to hold your won fort. In comes, the shields of Valheim.
Valheim, the survival RPG game that’s all the rage right now, has no shortage of creatures to defeat and conquer. After starting with axes and swords, you need to get a good shield to get yourself out of tricky situations.
1. All Shields Ranked in Valheim
Valheim divides shields into two categories, round and tower shields. Round ones are best suited for moving around and defending while the tower shields are best for holding your position as they are bulkier.
I. Round Shields
i. Black Metal Shield
It’s the best shield to get in Valheim and I think it looks the most badass too. On the higher end of the weight list at 5.0, the shield will give you a block power of 100 when fully upgraded with a parry force of 60.

ii. Silver Shield
Similar to the Black Metal Shield, the silver counterpart also weighs 5.0 but gives only upto 85 block damage at the maximum combined with 40 parry force.

iii. Bronze Buckler
On paper, the Bronze Buckler may not seem to be ranked higher than the Branded Shield but it packs a punch. The Bronze Buckler is the only shield to have a parry bonus of 2x which makes it have a higher parried damage. It may not sound like much but I think this is the most balanced shield to have in the mid game.

iv. Branded Shield
The Branded Shield is also among the 5 pointer weight shields with a max damage of 70 on a base of 60. Like many of its counterparts, it gets a 1.5x parry bonus.

v. Wood Shield
The starter shield to get in Valheim is the Wood Shield but I won’t count on it to get you very far. With just a base parry power of 20 and a weight of 4.0, it may be suited for light defense but I would recommend mining some metals fast.

II. Tower Shields
i. Black Metal Tower Shield
Once again the Black Metal equivalent comes out on the top in the tower shield section even though it is not the end game shield. Having the highest block power of 115 at the maximum upgrade level, there’s no getting through this.

Chain – x7
ii. Serpent Scale Shield
Coming in a close second, the Serpent Scale Shield clocks durability at a whooping 350 at its highest upgrade level. Losing only at the block power level to the Black Metal Tower Shield. If durability is something you are after then this is the one to get.

iii. Iron Tower Shield
The Iron Tower Shield is a perfect tower shield to get just after you found Iron. It is a huge upgrade over the wooden equivalent in terms of block power.

iv. Wood Tower Shield
The most basic tower shield out there is the Wood Tower Shield. It starts you with durability stats similar to most other tower shields but with a lower weight. A good starter shield to get you through your early game shenanigans.

2. About Valheim
Developed by Iron Gate AB, Valheim is an online open-world Survival craft co-op game. Here, players will control dead Vikings and fight Odin’s ancient enemies and monsters.
In order to enter paradise, players will have to please Odin and prove their worth to the allfather.
The journey will not be easy as at every step, the danger of supernatural entities will loom. Players will have to venture out, explore various landforms, craft, and get stronger.
