Valheim Smelting: Where to Find Silver, Iron and Bronze Ores

After starting out in Valheim with the essential tools, the next step in your agenda should be finding ores. Mineral and metal ores like Iron, Silver, and Bronze allow you to expand your arsenal beyond its primitive limits.

Valheim puts you in an unknown environment that can be very punishing. You are tasked with surviving amidst the wilderness where Minerals and Ores are going to be your friends. Among them, Silver, Iron, and Bronze should be your top priority.

1. Where to Find Bronze Ores in Valheim?

In Valheim, Bronze can only be smelted from Copper and Tin as it does not naturally occur in any Biomes. To make Bronze, you need Copper, Tin, a Smelter, a Forge, and a Charcoal Kiln.

Copper and Tin, essential for Bronze, are found in the Black Forest

First, we would need to go out in the Black Forest to gather Copper and Tin Ores using a pickaxe. Copper Ores are found in shiny veiny, moss-covered boulders, while Tin Ores are located near the river.

Use the Forge to make Bronze from Copper and Tin

Craft the following three items in the same order:

  • Charcoal Kiln: 20 Stone, 5 Surtling Core
  • Smelter: 20 Stone, 5 Surtling Core
  • Forge: 4 Stone, 4 Coal, 10 Wood, 6 Copper

Smelt the Copper and Tin to get their respective metal bars. Combine the bars in the Forge in the ratio of 2 Copper Bars to 1 Tin Bar to get Bronze.

2. Where to Find Iron Ores in Valheim?

Iron Ore or Scrap Iron can be found in the Swamp Biome in Valheim. Iron Ores will be inside the Sunken Crypts or can be obtained by mining the Muddy Scrap Piles.

The Muddy Scrap Piles are located in two places, either the doorways of Sunken Crypts or buried in random areas of the Swamp.

While exploring the Sunken Crypts, do be careful of the Draugr warriors; they are pretty dangerous blobs. The wishbone can help you find the Iron scraps, and once you find the Ores, you would need an Antler Pickaxe or a Bronze Pickaxe to get it out.

3. Where to Find Silver Ores in Valheim?

Silver Ores are found in the Mountain Biome in Valheim. Silver needs to be detected using the wishbone and dug out.

Wishbones are not standard items in Valheim. They are dropped after you defeat Swamp biome’s secret boss called Bonemass. To summon the boss, lay two withered bones on the altar (withered bones can be found in the Swamp Biome crypts).

Equip the wishbone in the Mountain biome, and they will blink green faster as you come near a silver ore. You do need the iron pickaxe to dig out the silver ore and craft it in the Forge first using core wood and Iron.

Use the Iron Pickaxe in Valheim to dig out Silver.

Silver can then, in turn, be used to make silver bars. Silver bars will enable you to make a bunch of useful stuff, like the Lox Cape, Drake Helmet, Silver Shield, and Sword.
