Want the next CoD Warzone Update to Be Smaller? Delete Modern Warfare

The latest update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, codenamed Season Two Reloaded, is here.

While it’s not an update to write home about, there is a sniper rifle and a few new operators up for grabs for Warzone players while Black Ops – Cold War players are getting new sets of maps and modes. This, of course, does not mean that your HDD won’t come under serious fire – the patch is an insane 133GB if you also have Modern Warfare pre-installed. If you don’t, things could work out better for your system.

Here are all the file sizes of the update as detailed by Call of Duty on their blog:

PC – 52.4 GB (Warzone Only) / 133.6 GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)

PS 4/5 – 52.0 GB

Xbox Series X /S and Xbox One: – 57.8 GB

Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s happening: the update sizes you see above are obscenely huge because the overall sizes of Warzone and Modern Warfare are reducing. A more precise breakdown of the reductions is as follows:

PS5 – 10.9GB (Warzone only) / 30.6GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)

PS4 – 10.9GB (Warzone only) / 30.6GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)

Xbox Series X/S – 14.2GB (Warzone only) / 33.6GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)

Xbox One – 4.2GB (Warzone only) / 33.6GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)

PC – 11.8GB (Warzone only) / 30.6GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)

This reduction, Call of Duty promises, will mean smaller updates in the future because Season Two Reloaded comes with space saving optimizations. The update will also let you remove individual play modes that you don’t play anymore so if you’re not really into Modern Warfare now, you can cut down the update size significantly.

Miami Strike (6v6) (Launch)

“Along with the ability to remove individual modes that are no longer played, owners of the full Modern Warfare experience will see more space freed on their platform of choice. However, those who want to continue playing Campaign, Multiplayer, and/or Special Ops will need to reinstall the optimized Content Packs, which will be released alongside and shortly after the Season Two Reloaded update.”

So, if you want to take advantage of this, uninstall the Modern Warfare chunk before the patch drops tomorrow night 11 PM PDT.

Let’s hope Call of Duty is just as proactive with a bug fixing update because the patch notes for Season Two Reloaded detail no such fixes. Warzone enthusiasts have encountered a myriad of bugs including one that lets opponents shoot from underground a helicopter bug that just hastens killing and more.

Warzone players are not the only ones who are going to be faced with tough decisions: Black Ops players also have a set of large updates coming their way. Here’s how much you’ll need ready depending on your system:

PS5 – 12.2 GB

PS4 – 7.4 GB

Xbox Series X/S – 14.18 GB

Xbox One – 9.13 GB

PC – 8.1 GB
