Animal Companion Featured Updates with Wasteland 3 Patch 1.4.0

Wasteland 3, one of the better strategy RPGs to come out last year, is a game which continues to grow. inXile Entertainment, the developer, revealed the first major narrative DLC The Battle of Steeltown earlier this month that is slated for release on June 3rd, 2021.

Before this release, the developer plans to release Patch 1.4.0, and one of the biggest changes which is going to be added will be the addition of an Animal Companion Kennel.

There have been a number of patches released for Wasteland 3 since the game released in August 2020. These have been aimed at adding new features and improving the game overall. In October 2020, a patch was released for Wasteland 3 which drastically cut down the load times, and just last month the developers added a permadeath mode for players who wanted a tougher challenge.

All we know about Patch 1.4.0 is that it will release sometime “in the next couple weeks”, but we do know what it will be adding to the game.

Animal Companions had been one of the main areas of focus. The biggest addition from this patch is going to be the Kennel, where animals who team up with the different squad members can rest when they have been dismissed instead of just being released back into the wild.

So, now players can choose from a wide range of cats, dogs and other animals to follow them into battle. Wasteland 3’s companion type limit is also going to be removed, and animal portraits and UI icons will be getting visual updates.

A blog post on Friday also detailed the updates coming to Polly the Parrot. The feathery companion will receive a “Demoralize” ability, which allows the bird to unleash several “blasphemy-laden insults” at enemies. inXile also let players know that the bugs which caused Wasteland 3’s non-animal followers to vanish are also being fixed.

The developer also released a blog post on April 20th which detailed another new feature coming with patch 1.4.0: Crafting. With crafting systems finding their way into most games, from Valheim to Fortnite, it isn’t really a surprise that inXile thought of adding it to Wastelands 3 as well.

Fans of the game are going to be getting a lot of new things from Patch 1.4.0 and The Battle of Steeltown DL, but the devs have also teased that this won’t be the games “final stop” in its animal companion preview. inXile also has 2 new RPGs currently in the works, so there is a lot to look forward to coming out of this one studio.

About Wasteland 3

Wasteland 3 is an isometric, squad-based RPG from inXile entertainment that features a post-apocalyptic setting and a choice-based storyline.

Following the events of Wasteland 2, we play as part of a duo of Arizona’s desert rangers whose base was destroyed at the end of the 2nd game.

After the people that were giving you aid in Colorado were ambushed and killed, you decide to journey through different parts of the game’s world, building the base once again and recruiting people to your cause.

The only question that remains, what will your course of action eventually be in this harsh wasteland?

Will you save it, or become the cause of its destruction?
