All Easter Eggs and Secrets – God of War Totems – Horizon Forbidden West

The latest Horizon Forbidden West has shown that it’s at par with other referencing games. It possesses a few hidden secrets revolving around God of War and rewards for players who find them.

In Horizon Forbidden West, there are several Easter eggs and hidden secrets such as the Totem of War, Totem of Youth, Totem of Brotherhood and the Mark of War. You can find little nods to Kratos and his recent Norse adventures across the nine realms, a crossover that’s enough to delight the eagle-eyed fans of the franchise.

Additionally, unlocking every mount in the game makes finding all the Easter eggs easier. They’re scattered across the jungle in locales that replicate Kratos’ journey in Scandinavia.

The Totem of War resembles Kratos, while the Totem of Youth resembles Atreus. Lastly, the Totem of Brotherhood is actually two totems similar to Brock and Sindri, the dwarf master smiths. Upon finding all the totems, you’ll unlock the Mark of War craftable cosmetic, which is purchasable from Face Painters for 10 scraps.

In this article, you’ll find all about the God of War Easter eggs in Horizon Forbidden West.

1. Easter Egg – Totem of War

Totem of War

The Totem of War is probably the first Easter egg you’ll come across in Horizon Forbidden West, and there’s no doubt about its cuteness. Ironically, that’s not a description you’d expect for Kratos’ lookalike. Moreover, it may not be as tall as Kratos, but it’s still a worthy find.

You can find the totem resembling the Ghost of Sparta north of Cliffwatch and east of the Greenhouse. Players can obtain it by looking underneath a tree embedded with a replica of the Leviathan Axe.

Upon following a few nearby tracks, you can also find the recreation of the cabin Kratos and Atreus lived in at the beginning of their story. The tree you’ll be looking for is outside the cabin on the left, adjacent to a bunch of wooden barrels.

However, it’s advisable to stay prepared for a fight as there is a Stalker lurking around in the wild nearby.

2. Easter Egg – Totem of Youth

Like the Totem of War, the Totem of Youth is also modelled around a God of War character, Atreus. Although in a twist he reveals himself as Loki, the God of Mischief, there’s nothing mischievous about the location where the totem is found.

Players can find this totem on the other side of the Isle of Spires, in a training ground resembling Atreus’ archery range in God of War. Nevertheless, it’s not accessible until the later part of the game, so you’ll have to wait a bit.

On the northeast region of the island near a Snapmaw site, players will notice a couple of palm trees with a bow and a trail to guide them to the totem. It sits on top of a rusty sign on an old bridge.

Besides, the presence of a Stormbird Site nearby indicates the arrival of an enemy you’ve to fight.

3. Easter Egg – Totem of Brotherhood

The Totem of Brotherhood in the game consists of two totems, but it’s still counted as only one entity. Although the story behind the disappearance of the rest of the dwarfs is unknown, Brock and Sindri feature in Horizon Forbidden West as two carvings.

You’ll have to navigate to the No Man’s Land to get your hands on this Easter egg and unlock the Mark of War reward. The totem is hidden in the southwest area of No Man’s Land in a place called Jagged Deep. It’s close to Frost Glinthawk Site south of Latopolis, where the Death’s Door main quest occurs.

Near the corpse of a Widemaw killed by the hammer of a skilled blacksmith on the southwest of Spinebreak, there’s a campfire containing a unique path. After following the path, Aloy will reach a cluster of rocks encompassing the totem.

If you have the other two totems, you’ll receive the Mark of War upon successfully grabbing the Totem of Brotherhood.

4. Easter Egg – Mark of War

Once players obtain all three totems, they can purchase the Mark of War from any available Face Painter. It only costs 10 scraps, so unless you’ve gone on a shopping frenzy, chances are you’ll be able to afford it.

It’s designed to resemble Kratos’ popular red markings from God of War and possesses a short description that calls back to the franchise’s theme.

Although it may not seem like a great reward for travelling throughout the vast map and fighting potent machines, God of War fans are likely to geek out over it.
