Tell Diallos He Defended the Jars or Not Choice Guide – Elden Ring

Once players arrive at the Roundtable Hold in Elden Ring, a knight named Diallos will ask them to keep an eye out for his companion, Lanya. Although he doesn’t explain much about the whole situation, he seems concerned that Lanya might’ve fallen into trouble. Moreover, he exclaims his disappointment that he can’t go looking for her.

As a result, you’ve to track this young woman as a secondary objective during your main journey. Upon successfully locating her, you’ll realize she’s dead. Diallos will react frantically to this news and swear to avenge her death. After a few more run-ins, you’ll meet Diallos in Jarburg, where he’ll be lying wounded on the ground after trying to protect the Jars from a bunch of poachers.

Diallos will ask you if he defended the Jars during the invasion or not, and you’ll have to reply by selecting a dialogue. Your reply will not influence the outcome of the questline and is aimed towards merely adding an emotional touch to the storyline.

Here’s a more detailed explanation of the difference in the progression of the questline based on your reply.

You Defended the Jars from the Poachers or Not Diallos Choice

Defended the Jars

Whichever option you choose in the “You Defended Them, or Not” Elden Ring Diallos Choice questline doesn’t change the result of the remaining quest. Regardless of whether you tell Diallos you fought for the Jars or not, the quest will end in the same way eventually.

The only significant difference is if you want to show a dying man a bit of mercy and solace or not. Additionally, the fact that he lost his companion, Lanya, instills a greater sense of sympathy for him during such a moment.

I. Consequence of Choosing “You Defended Them”

If you select the dialogue reply “You defended them,” Diallos will be overcome by satisfaction and draw his final breath with gratefulness.

He’ll die believing that he played an essential role in the storyline. Hence, he’ll be at peace knowing he ultimately proved his worth.

II. Consequence of Choosing “I’m Afraid Not”

Nonetheless, if players opt for “I’m afraid not” as their reply to Diallos’ last words, he’ll laugh with visible sadness. Then, he’ll exclaim that he was “a fool till the last” and die.

Do you wish to be kind to a dying acquaintance or send him with a crushed spirit to the afterlife? Keeping in mind the painful tone of the quest, a healing lie latched to a glimmer of hope won’t hurt anybody.

Other Encounters with Diallos in Elden Ring

Diallos is one of the several Non-Playable Characters (NPCs) that players will come across in Elden Ring. Like other NPCs, they serve as quest givers.

The various locations of encountering Diallo are mentioned below, including the spot where he assigns his sidequest.

I. Finding Diallos in the Beginning

You’ll come across Diallos when you set foot in the Roundtable Hold for the first time. As mentioned early in this article, he’ll inquire about Lanya and request players to find out about her.

II. Diallos in Liurnia of the Lakes

Once you set out on a journey to the Raya Lucaria Academy in Liurnia of the Lakes, you’ll notice Diallos near the Gate Town of the academy.

Progress north from the region’s Site of Grace, and you’ll catch Diallos mourning the loss of Lanya next to her corpse. Players have to interact with him again and move back to the Roundtable Hold.

Upon arriving, you’ll coincidently run into him in the Roundtable Hold again. Lastly, you’ll have to convince him to go to Volcano Manor.

III. Diallos in Volcano Manor

In Volcano Manor, players can find Diallos in the drawing-room. More accurately, he’ll be the drawing-room where you’ll retrieve letters regarding the Tanith assassinations. After entering the room, you’ll notice him standing on the right side of Bernhal.

If players converse with him after finishing each assassination, he’ll leave Volcano Manor and return later, looking depleted. Nevertheless, once you complete the quests, Diallos will leave, like the rest of the characters.

IV. Diallos in Jarburg

The place you’ll see Diallos for the last time is Jarburg. Initially, players can notice him interacting with a Jar in a small shack.

He’s set out for redemption and prove himself, so he believes that he’s forging his own path after abandoning Volcano Manor.

After leaving this place and showing up later, a poacher will invade Jarburg. You’ll find him on his death bed, and he’ll ask you about his effectiveness in saving the Jars. However, he’ll pass away regardless.
