Elden Ring is a challenging game made by FromSoftware consisting of many notoriously powerful enemies and bosses. However, after getting through the hurdles and completing the main story, players can choose between several different activities and game modes in the game.
For instance, after taking down the Elden Beast, players are offered a choice to start a game mode called Journey 2 or New Game Plus or continue in the current world and complete other side quests.
Elden Ring New Game+ or Journey 2 is a mode where players can repeat the primary game with the same weapons and more powerful enemies. You can unlock this game mode after beating the main story.
If you’re someone that loves a challenge, then Elden Ring New Game+ is the way to go. However, the game will take away certain items and features if you choose to start Journey 2.
In this article, I’ll go through everything you need to know about Elden Ring New Game+ and what carries over in Journey 2 and beyond.
What carries over into Journey 2 and beyond in Elden Ring New Game+?
Players who choose to go into Journey 2 will have to start the game again with additional difficulty. However, their level, stats, weapons, and normal items will carry in-game.
In other words, players will take their character, weapons, and items in a new game on a higher difficulty. It means that players can explore the beginning of the game with more freedom. However, they won’t be able to carry some special items in their new journey.
What items don’t carry over into Journey 2 and beyond in Elden Ring?
Players can’t take things like Great Runes, key items, or items crucial for story progression into Journey 2 and beyond in Elden Ring. It’s due to each quest going through a complete reset while picking “yes” for New Game+.
Additionally, all the keys’ players have found in their playthrough are lost in the reset. All opened doors, sites of Lost Grace, and side quests also go through a complete reset. Therefore, it’s recommended for players to complete any NPC side quests before starting New Game+.
How to start New Game+ in Elden Ring?
Players can start New Game+ by beating the final boss and saying “Yes” to the prompt after the credits. The prompt mentions it as “Journey 2” in-game. However, if you choose no, you can go back to the Table of Lost Grace and pick “Begin Journey 2” to start New Game+.
Also, by choosing no, the character will teleport back to Roundtable Hold and are free to continue exploring the world. During this time, players can complete any quests which are still active or track other optional bosses in the Lands Between.
Additionally, players can prepare themselves for New Game+ by upgrading their gear and purchasing items before losing Great Runes. The option to “Begin Journey 2” is always available at the Table of Lost Grace in Roundtable Hold, so you’re free to explore and rank up until you want to restart the game again.
Are there any new weapons, enemies, items, or bosses in Elden Ring New Game+?
Unfortunately, players won’t get any brand-new weapons, enemies, items, or bosses they wouldn’t find in the regular playthrough. The only changes are the amount of runes obtained by defeating enemies and the difficulty.
All FromSoftware games like Dark Souls used to have some additional features in the New Game+ mode, but Elden Ring hasn’t received any update like that yet. It’s still a worthwhile experience for those looking for more competition after beating the Elden Beast.
I recommend trying out different endings and creating new builds for your character to make it more entertaining. It challenges players to try different strategies as they restart their journey in the Lands Between.
