What Happened with Cyberpunk 2077: Everything You Need to Know

Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the limelight for quite some time now, starting from its delayed launch to its ever-ending glitches. What happened with Cyberpunk 2077, or is it just inherently a bad game?

Cyberpunk 2077’s launch was propped up by its character and story designers alone. All the other aspects were more or less plagued by bugs and glitches. Since then, CD Projekt Red has been in firefighting mode; let’s see what happened to Cyberpunk 2077.

1. Why Was Cyberpunk 2077 Hyped?

Cyberpunk 2077 was hyped because it was a new major single-player RPG release from CD Projekt Red, which has previously released the Witcher 3, a big fan favorite.

The Teaser that started it all

Players wanted a new open-world sci-fi game in a period where Battle Royale and remastered games were all that the studios were interested in.

When CDPR, which has a reputation for bangers, announced Cyberpunk 2077 at E3, it undoubtedly caused ripples in the gaming community. The development went for quite a while. Obviously, the water started boiling, and the launch day arrived. It finally boiled over when gamers were not quite happy with the finished product.

2. What Went Wrong with the Launch of Cyberpunk 2077

Several factors contributed to the failed launch of Cyberpunk 2077. No single factor was the reason for breaking the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and its hype. Instead, a delayed launch combined with a still-unfinished game led to the downfall of Cyberpunk 2077.

The sarcasm level is off the charts

When a game is in development for seven long years, the community expects a properly polished game and nothing else. What we got instead was an open-world filled with T posing characters and glitches.

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature.

Within the launch hour, people stormed social media, posting clips and screenshots of the odd stuff happening in Night City. When I say odd, I do not mean the characters living a dystopian life but cars glitching out at 100 miles/h.

Among many others, I felt that the game is yet unfinished and stormed the stores asking for a refund, which inadvertently led to the unavoidable.

3. Cyberpunk 2077 Banned from The Playstation Store

Cyberpunk 2077 was banned from the Playstation Store because more and more people started to storm for refunds and returns owing to the game’s inherent problems. Especially on the PS4, according to the majority, the game was rendered ‘unplayable.’

Cyberpunk 2077 being pulled off the Playstation Store

This was quite shocking as it is not common for the Playstation Store to pull down games, and that too a AAA title!

Among the numerous bugs, there still exists a pretty solid game, and it might not be the end of days for Cyberpunk 2077.

4. Is Cyberpunk 2077 a Bad Game?

Cyberpunk 2077 is NOT a bad game per se; it’s just not fully polished in its current state. The characters and the storyline are still stellar, and once the glitches and performance bugs are ironed out, it will be a chart-topper.

I am of the opinion that CDPR should have delayed the game further, as I can afford to play a working game late than a broken game early! Still, my sentiment was not shared by many as CD Projekt Red had received threats to release the game after the multiple delays, and then the same people complained about the game being broken, the irony.

What is done is done. CDPR has been in patch mode ever since. With the latest V1.10 revision being released, will they be able to fix the dumpster fire, or is it time to let go?

5. Can Cyberpunk 2077 Be Fixed?

Yes, Cyberpunk 2077 can still be fixed. Most of the glitches and bugs need to be ironed out. As the base game in itself is pretty solid, there is still hope for CDPR to earn redemption for Cyberpunk 2077.

CD Projekt Red has already been on the right track with this. First, they started refunds and returns right away. Owning that customer satisfaction was on top of their list even though this shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

Secondly, they have been releasing patch fixes and updates ever since. I shouldn’t pat corporates on the back for fixing their own bad product, but in a time where big companies just ignore the customers, it is nice to see some change.

I really liked the storyline and the vast array of intertwining characters in Night City. CD Projekt Red needs to just watch and fix the stuff that stands out, and they would have a record-breaker in their hands.

6. About Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt, based on video game designer Mike Pondsmith’s game series.

Set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of “V,” a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as “Night City,” where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic “bio-chip” containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V’s mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V’s life.
