Everything to Know About Upcoming Assassin’s Creed Game: Hexe

Recently, Ubisoft officially announced three upcoming Assassin’s Creed games at the Ubisoft Forward Showcase 2022 event, with one of them titled Codename Hexe.

Codename Hexe might seem a weird name to a few gamers, but it’s merely a working title. Similar to one of the other games, Codename Red, it has no actual title yet.

Besides Codename Hexe and Codename Red, the third game announced by Ubisoft is Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Unlike Hexe and Red, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will return to the trademark stealthy and action-adventure style gameplay of the Assassin’s Creed series.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe’s storyline surrounds the demise of the Holy Roman Empire. It focuses on the witch trials that were common during that period. Additionally, the fact that Hexe means which in German confirms the same.

What exactly is Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe?

Ubisoft’s Marc-Alexis Cotes was persistent that “it will be a very different type of Assassin’s Creed game.” Nonetheless, there isn’t nearly enough information about what that exactly means.

Fortunately, from the undertone of the official announcement, it’s clear that Codename Hexe is going to be much more iniquitous compared to the series’ previous installments.

Based on the AC crest made from broken branches and the preluding sinister music, the game seems to encompass a sentiment of horror and spook. At the same time, factor in the dying trees and buoyant leaves, and you could have something supernatural at your disposal.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe doesn’t possess an official release date yet. It will release after AC Mirage and Codename Red.

As Mirage will release sometime in 2023, you might have to wait till 2024 to get your hands on Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe’s Trailer

Amounting to a total of 30 seconds, the Hex’s is considerably short. Nonetheless, it leaves substantial room for you to speculate all you can about the game.

Although the ominous music has already been mentioned, what about the evil barking in the background? It sounds like dogs on a hunt, communicating in the darkness surrounding the forest-like backdrop. These observations are enough to conclude the game’s setting.

The wooden crest mentioned previously seems to be hanging from a tree and spinning above a brightly burning flame. Such a scene supports the ‘dark imagery’ and suggests that Codename Hexe possesses a link to black magic and witches.

Ubisoft’s Marc-Alexis Cotes says – “can’t wait for our fans to tear apart that trailer and find out all its secrets.” But does the Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe trailer reveal all the necessary secrets?

Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe’s Setting

Bloomberg might have already revealed the setting of Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe. Although Ubisoft is yet to confirm it, Bloomberg proposes that the game will be set in Central Europe in the 16th Century. If genuine, this leak would most certainly verify the sentiment conveyed by the game’s trial as Central Europe in the 16th Century was home to witch trials.

During those witch trials, approximately 80,000 people were murdered. This mass killing was carried out based on a rumor that these people were in league with the Devil. With abundant tittle-tattle and terror, rampant paranoia will be the primary aspect of Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe.

So, this confirms the element of horror. Nevertheless, will Ubisoft leap further and add magical or supernatural elements to the game? You’ll have to wait a bit to find out, but it’s unquestionably going to be worth it.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe’s Developer

Ubisoft Montreal Studios

Ubisoft Montreal Studios, the creators of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, is developing Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe. In addition, they were also the creators of the first-ever Assassin’s Creed name 15 years ago. Since AC Valhalla is a violent RPG, you should expect similar things from Codename Hexe.

Moreover, the lead developer of this Assassin’s Creed installment is Clint Hocking, the mastermind behind Watch Dogs Legion and Far Cry 2. As both games are technically supreme over their competitors, it’s unreasonable to hope for anything less from Codename Hexe.
