Staggering in Elden Ring

For instance, if your poise stat is 70, you will face the stagger effect after receiving 71 or more points of poise damage. In this state, you can’t block any attack and are prone to attacks for a short period.
But players will face different variations of staggers as they progress into the game. There are three types of stagger effects players can receive depending on which weapon they are attacked with:
- Weak Stagger: This stagger is caused when the character takes a hit from a standard weapon. Players cannot move for a third to half a second in this state.
- Heavy Stagger: Players can’t move around for a second while being in a state of a heavy stagger. It’s caused by being hit by Great type weapons.
- Knock-down: The character will be completely knocked off their feet and can’t take any action until recovery when they get hit with a knockdown. It takes place when someone gets hit by a colossal weapon.
Note: Only weak and heavy types staggering are allowed in PvP. Players will only get heavy staggering after being hit by a colossal weapon in this game mode.

How to increase Poise stat in Elden Ring?
Elden Ring gamers can increase their poise stats by wearing or upgrading armor on their character’s head, chest, arms, and legs. Additionally, they can use different items like Bull-Goat’s Talisman, which help to boost the stat in-game.
Depending on your build, every armor piece will have different Poise values. However, Elden Ring players can use these items to boost this stat:
- Bull-Goat’s Talisman: Boosts Poise by 33%.
- Baldachin’s Blessing or Radiant Baldachin’s Blessing: Increases Poise stat by 52%.
- Stonebarb Cracked Tear: Increases Poise by 25%.
- Ironjar Aromatic: Increases Poise and give additional resistance.
How to check Poise HP in Elden Ring?
Players can check their character’s Poise HP by opening up the main menu and going to the status tab. However, there isn’t any way to check the Poise HP of your enemies in Elden Ring.
Typically, common enemies have 60 Poise HP, making them stagger after some heavy hits. On the other hand, bosses have over 100 Poise HP, which requires a lot of attack combinations before they break their stance.
What weapons do the most poise damage in Elden Ring?
Colossal weapons deal the most poise damage to every light attack. This category of weapons includes Duelist Greataxe, Envoy’s Greathorn, Rotten Greataxe, and Prelate’s Inferno Crozier.
However, it’s recommended for players to choose the weapons that suit their playstyle, as every item has its strong and weak points related to Poise damage.
