The Best Response to Guthrum in Reaver of the South: AC Valhalla

While carrying out missions in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the game forces you to take up choices that may affect the outcome of the game. For instance, during the quest, Reaver of the South, Eivorr will fall into an argument with Guthrum, and players have to pick between two dialogue options during the cutscene.  

Regardless of what you pick, Guthrum will leave the camp, but certain changes will take place during the cutscene in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.  

Therefore, in this guide, I’ve made a complete walkthrough of the Reaver of the South mission and explained how your choices will affect the outcome in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. 

1. How to begin the Reaver of the South mission in AC Valhalla? 

You can begin the Reaver of the South quest after pledging to Suthsexe from the alliance map in your longhouse at Ravensthorpe. After that, speak with Basim at Croindene to prepare for the attack on Portcestre.  

After interacting with Basim, a cutscene will begin, where you’ll meet a character called Jarl Guthrum. Respond as you wish with his dialogue, as it won’t affect future events. In the end, Eivor will be tasked with taking down three scouts south of Croindene.  

2. Location of the Scouts in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla 

Players can find the three scouts by using the objective markers on the map and have complete freedom to choose which scout they should approach first. However, you can find the nearest scout on the hill.  

I. The Hill  

As you get closer to the area, make sure to use the raven to check out the surroundings and where you can find them. After that, you’ll be attacked by various wolves. Kill the creatures and inspect the scout, who should be lying dead there.  

II. Medeuuage River

You can find the second scout at the Crawleah Cock by moving south towards the Medeuuage River. Over there, you’ll find him guarded by several soldiers.  

The scout comes in the form Arbalist. To explain, he can inflict a lot of damage if you allow any attacks, so make sure to kill him as soon as possible. Also, you’ll need to confirm the kill for it to register before you move ahead.  

III. Cicestre Abbey

The third scout is located at the west of Crawleah Dock, close to the northwestern entrance of Cicestre Abbey. Here, you can ambush the guards with ease, either by breaking the nearby wall or shooting the fire pot from the fields.  

After they’re all dead, confirm the kill on the scout and meet up with Basim in the woods of Cicestre Abbey. A cutscene will trigger, and you’ll need to fight back against a swarm of Saxons.   

Keep killing the Saxons until the white bar on the top left fills. It should take around 20 kills to complete the bar and move ahead to a boss fight. 

3. How to defeat Fulke’s Champion in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?

You need to constantly attack the right foot to defeat Fulke’s Champion in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It gives an opportunity to execute a stun attack and bring down the champion’s health significantly.    

Bonus Tip: If you’re running low on HP during the boss fight, you can find plenty of bushes in the area to heal yourself.  

Overall, it’s an easy boss fight as long as you’re able to dodge the champion’s swift strikes. Stop his attack with counters and combine light attacks with heavy ones to deal more damage. The boss has only slightly more health than regular elite units, so it shouldn’t take too long to take him down.  

4. Should you kill or spare Fulke’s Champion in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla? 

You should kill Fulke’s Champion in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla because choosing to spare him will result in the same boss fight later in the story.   

Regardless, after defeating the boss, you’ll need to carry Brothir’s body back to the camp. When you lay him down on a bed, a cutscene will trigger, and an argument between Eivor and Guthrum takes place. 

5. How will Guthrum respond to Eivor in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?  

You’ll be given two options, which will register the following responses from Guthrum:  

• I will listen: Guthrum explains to Eivor how to get Sigurd back from Fulke’s hands and then leave the camp. 
• Don’t speak to me that way: Eivor will say that he is not a child. Guthrum will remain calm and explain his plan. Then he will leave the camp.
