How to Get the Rivers of Blood – Katana Location Guide – Elden Ring

Without a doubt, FromSoftware knows how to create a formidable katana, and Elden Ring is loaded with potent blades. Although several players must’ve fulfilled their samurai fantasy by using the Moonveil, there’s another katana on its way to becoming the most revered blade. The blade now being used by gamers to slash Elden Ring bosses is none other than the Rivers of Blood katana.

The Rivers of Blood katana possesses the same movement as the Uchigatana and the distinctively dangerous Corpse Piler Ash of War. As a result, it inflicts deadly damage with a multitude of hits in a few seconds.

Since it deals high-bleed damage, you should prefer the Rivers of Blood katana against Elden Ring bosses vulnerable to a bleed-focused build.

You can get the Rivers of Blood katana by venturing to the eastern part of the Mountaintops of the Giants. Additionally, you’ll have to progress about 60-70% into the Church of Repose questline. The Bloody Finger Okina wields this blade, so you’ll have to kill him to retrieve it.

Here’s a detailed guide to help you obtain the Rivers of Blood blade in Elden Ring.

Step #1 – Kill Morgott to Navigate to the Mountaintops of the Giants

Traveling to the Mountaintops of the Giants is as simple as gaining access to the lift, but it’s not as easy. To unlock this lift, you’ll have to kill the Omen King, Shardbearer Morgott, at Leyndell.

However, before attempting the fight with the Omen King, players are advised to fight the Shardbearer Radahn. It’ll give you an idea of the fighting tactics and skills of the Shardbearers and prepare you for the battle with Morgott.

Once you’ve successfully killed him, use the lift to go to the Mountaintops of the Giants.

Step #2 – Go to the Church of Repose

You’ve to cross the snowy mountains and go to the Church of Repose present in Land Between’s southern quadrant.

Players can ride across Sol’s Castle and follow the next mountain ridge. This ridge will take you to the Guardian’s Garrison.

Then, you’ve to cross the canyon via a massive chain link on the left part of the garrison and continue on the straight pathway to reach the church.

Step #3 – Kill the Bloody Finger Okina

Upon reaching the Church of Repose, you’ll meet the Bloody Finger Okina, the bearer of the blade of Rivers of Blood. He battles similar to the other Red Phantom NPCs, but he’s a more perilous threat because he possesses the Corpse Piler.

You can get your hands on the Rivers of Blood katana by defeating Okina. Furthermore, you’ll receive the Corpse Piler Ash of War as a bonus reward.

Defeating the Bloody Finger Okina

Since Okina wields the same weapon as the one you’re there to collect, beating him is a daunting task. Besides, the benefits that made you want to obtain the blade will now make you dread going on a hunt for it.

Anyway, it’s advisable to dodge most of his attacks as coming in contact with the Rivers of Blood will result in blood loss. Okina is exceptionally aggressive, so he tends to run towards his opponents. As a result, he is left open to attacks while he’s covering the distance.

The most effective way of defeating him is waiting for him to attack and then make a move. Another approach includes using the Rejection incantation while on the cliff ledge and forcing him off the edge.

If you lose, you’ll have to start the hunt all over again. So, it’s wise to fight this Bloody Finger patiently instead of returning back to square one.

Once you achieve victory, he’ll drop the Rivers of Blood katana for you to collect. Although immensely destructive, you should upgrade this katana if you wish to demolish all Elden Ring bosses with it.

Note: Due to a bug, killing the Fire Giant before fighting the Bloody Finger will prevent you from encountering Okina.
