The Last of Us Part 1 follows the journey of Joel and Ellie and their fight for survival in a post-apocalyptic world where the mutant Cordyceps virus outbreak has taken a huge toll on humanity. Joel is tasked with escorting Ellie through the US to deliver her to the Fireflies as she is said to be immune to the Cordyceps virus.
The opening of the game takes place in Austin, Texas, whereas the first major city section was set in Boston following Joel and Ellie’s journey to escort her to the Fireflies across the US. As for the parts involving Henry and Sam, it took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The game ends with Joel and Ellie escaping Saint Mary’s Hospital and going back to Jackson County, Wyoming, the only place where people could safely live without the fear of getting infected.

Where does The Last of Us Part 2 take place?
Set five years after the ending of the original game, The Last of Us Part 2 follows the journey of Ellie and her quest for revenge against Abby, who murdered Joel. The game shows two sides of the same story and also features two playable characters, Ellie and Abby.
The game takes place primarily in Seattle over several days showing the perspective of two opposing characters, Ellie and Abby. Near the ending, a fight breaks out between both of them in Santa Barbara where Ellie brings down Abby but is unable to kill her and lets her live.
The ending of the game takes place back in the outskirts of Wyoming in Ellie and Dina’s farmhouse. Ellie returns to it after her fight with Ellie, tries to play her guitar reminiscing about her last conversation with Joel. After that she leaves the guitar and walks away, possibly back to Jackson.

About The Last of Us Part II
The Last of Us Part II is a an action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. The game is set 5 years after the events of the first game.
Players control Ellie on her journey for revenge against The Wolves, a faction which has set up in Seattle. On her journey, Ellie fights against survivors of the Cordyceps apocalypse and new variants of the infected. The game mixes elements of stealth and gun-play in vast areas, allowing players to approach the situation as they see fit. The Last of Us Part 2 received an overall positive reception and has gone on to win several Game of the Year awards.
