Heavy Runic Attacks Location & Upgrades – God of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok sees the return of Runic Attacks, both Light and Heavy. Heavy Runic Attacks are powerful attacks which deal massive damage to enemies the more you upgrade it. 

Heavy Runic Attacks can be performed by holding L1, which is the block/party button and simultaneously clicking R2 on your controller. Kratos will execute the Heavy Runic Attacks with his Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos or the Draupnir Spear.

I. Fog of Fimbulwinter

  • Location: Fog of Fimbulwinter winter can be found ina Legendary Chest during the mission ‘Forging Destiny’. 
  • Description: A massive ice wave that inflicts frost damage and freezes enemies in its path.
  • Cost: Level 2 – 3,250 XP

II. Leviathan’s Roar

Leviathan’s Roar – Leviathan Axe Heavy Runic
  • Location: Leviathan’s Road can be found in a Legendary Chest after the first encounter with Nokkens in the mission ‘Creatures of Prophecy’. Climb up to a higher ground using the Draupnir Spear. 
  • Description: A powerful axe throw that returns with devastating impact. Kratos is fully protected while shielding
  • Cost: Level 2 – 4,250 XP

III. Atlas Eruption

Atlas Eruption – Blades of Chaos Heavy Runic
  • Location: Atlas Eruption can be found in a Legendary Chest in Svartalfheim in the mission ‘Forging Destiny’ after the geyser puzzle with Brok. 
  • Description: Repeatedly slam both blades into the ground to spark explosions all around. Mash for more slams.
  • Cost: Level 2 – 4,250 XP

          Level 3 – 10,500 XP

IV. Tame The Beast

  • Location: Tame the Beast can be found in a Legendary Chest in Helheim in the mission ‘Reunion’ as you try to reach Garm. 
  • Description: A series of Blade whips scorches nearby enemies. Press R2 again for more swipes!
  • Cost: Level 2 – 3,250 XP

          Level 3 – 9,000 XP

V. Nemean Crush

Nemean Crush – Blades of Chaos Heavy Runic
  • Location: Also featured in God of War (2018), the Nemean Crush can be found in a Legendary Chest in Alfheim during the mission ‘Song of the Sands’ after freeing the Hafgufa’s bindings. 
  • Description: A massive fiery shockwave attack that sends enemies flying back. 
  • Cost: Level 2 – 2,550 XP

          Level 3 -8,000 XP

VI. Artillery of the Ancients

  • Location: Artillery of the Ancients can be found during the mission ‘Creatures of Prophecy’, before you meet up with Freya back at Freyr’s Camp. 
  • Description: Hurl Draupnir to the sky, raining down multiplying spears.
  • Cost: Level 2 – 5,500 XP

VII. Vindsvalr’s Windstorm

  • Location: Vindsvalr’s Windstorm can found after defeating the Flame Phantom during the mission ‘The Summoning’. 
  • Description: There is no description available for this Heavy Runic Attack. 
  • Cost: Level 2 – 4,250 XP
