Current Windows 10 Users Will Get Windows 11 for Free

Microsoft just unveiled their brand new version of Windows, dubbed Windows 11. Along with a visual refresh, we are also going to be getting some new functionality. While some functions will require a bit of unlearning (like the center-placed ‘Start’ button), it’s an update almost everyone is eager to get onto their systems.

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 will be a free update for all those currently using Windows 10.

Much like how Windows 10 was free for those using Windows 7 and 8, users will just have to make sure they match the system requirements for Windows 11. The Windows 11 update will be made available through Windows Update, the same way other Windows 10 updates have been pushed out.

The minimum requirements for Windows 11 are,

  • 64-bit CPU
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 64GB Storage Space

Windows 11 will include a new UI, an overhaul of the traditional Start menu, performance improvements, and updates, which will help make multitasking much more effortless. The entire focus of the update is to simplify the software and make it even more accessible to a larger audience.

Users can even access Android Apps through the Amazon Appstore. While it is a strange way to go about getting apps natively on Windows, it’s a step in a direction that could lead to a more substantial collaboration between Windows OS and Android OS.

No one thought that the Windows 11 update would be monetized, as Microsoft’s primary revenue stream is from commercial and OEM licenses. But, it’s good to know that everyone with Windows 10 will be bumped up to the latest version in a seamless and cost-free manner.

We don’t yet have an exact release date for Windows 11. Microsoft has put out a statement saying, “Windows 11 will be available through a free upgrade for eligible Windows 10 PCs and on new PCs beginning this holiday.”
