If you’re looking to build a fully-integrated setup with RGB lighting, you’d have to buy peripherals from the same brand since most companies offer their RGB lighting solutions which are not cross-compatible. This additional step is a headache in itself.
Microsoft is developing a universal Windows 11 solution for integrated RGB lighting control. The new feature would allow users to change lighting effects for connected peripherals, directly from the Windows 11 Settings.
Currently, it is available in the latest build released to Insiders in the Dev channel during last week.
A couple of screenshots from the early Windows 11 builds have been doing the rounds lately which imply that this feature might be available on PC soon.
This would eliminate the hassle of Corsair iCUE or Razer Synapse or other third-party softwares for lighting options. The new personalization menu would allow users to control external hardware lighting, including gaming keyboard, mouse, or headset.
You can change the brightness, lighting effect type, its speed, and the color. These would be applicable to all USB attached hardware, even Steam Deck from Elgato. There’s even an option to match the current Windows theme color.
Microsoft has not confirmed whether these lighting options would also support motherboard and graphics card RGB. However, it might be possible after some extra work by the OS development team.
Readers should note that Microsoft has not officially confirmed the working of these features yet so their availability might vary. This is not the final version of the RGB lighting control feature, other settings are also being considered.
