Next-gen Updates for Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk are Coming in Late 2021

CD Projekt Red has a lot on its plate this year. After the abysmal launch of Cyberpunk 2077, the Polish developer has been hard at work churning out updates and patches to improve the game, which has, thankfully, worked out well so far.

The following job on the list is next-gen upgrades for ‘Cyberpunk’ and the favorite child ‘The Witcher 3’, for which CDPR has confirmed a release window.

In its first half 2021 financial presentation today, CDPR updated the release period for the upgrades from “2021” to “late 2021.”

The developer also reiterated that they would improve performance, load times, graphics, and bring in every kind of bump you can expect with a game on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The upgrade for The Witcher 3 will also include a DLC inspired by Netflix’s live-action series starring Henry Cavill.

What’s more, the DLC won’t be exclusive to next-gen consoles, so those playing on PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch can also dive in. The contents of the DLC are not known yet, but details should arrive on that front sometime soon.

The rest of CDPR’s presentation focused on detailing how patches have improved Cyberpunk 2077’s performance.

The current financial stature of the company was also outlined: costs have risen, and profits are low but seeing how Cyberpunk’s launch went, that should not come as a surprise.

However, it’s not like the game didn’t create a windfall for CDPR. In 2020 itself, the game sold 13 million copies even after refunds, and now that it’s back on the PS Store, new money shouldn’t be an issue for CDPR if it keeps the improvements coming.

The company also shared how it’s directing its employees to projects other than Cyberpunk patches and next-gen upgrades but revealed no details about these projects.
