Your First Look at Resident Evil Village Running on PS4 Pro Is Here

Earlier this year, Capcom surprised gamers with the announcement that Resident Evil Village would be launching on old-gen consoles Xbox One and PS4 in addition to its new-gen counterparts, the Xbox Series X/S and PS5. And now, after a relatively quiet period, Capcom has shared gameplay footage of their highly anticipated survival horror title via an exclusive five-minute IGN showcase.

The footage was captured on a PS4 Pro and gives players a first-person glimpse of the creepy and gruesome environments of the game along with a special appearance from the world’s favourite vampire, Lady Dimitrescu.

The footage starts off with Ethan Winters, the game’s protagonist who was first introduced in Resident Evil 7, sneaking into what is unmistakably Castle Dimitrescu. You can see our Lady climbing a flight of stairs right above but we don’t draw her attention to us for obvious reasons.

Winters then sneaks into the castle’s hidden cellar which is flooded with what seems like blood. Here we get a peek at the game’s combat mechanics as Winters battles a few reanimated corpses with a range of weapons including a knife, handgun, and shotgun.

The latter half of the video focuses on Lady Dimitrescu. After Winters finds his way out of the cellar, he ends up spying on Dimitrescu through a window as she picks up the phone to speak to Mother Miranda.

In the scene, which also provides context to a scene from the game’s story trailer, she speaks of her inability to capture Winters while underlining the importance of some ceremony. Once she hangs up, she launches the bureau at which she was sitting halfway across the room; a scary display of strength if we ever saw one.

An interesting tidbit from the gameplay is a small pop-up that appears at the bottom right of the screen, indicating the presence of a Photo Mode which players will be able jump into at any time. This is the first RE title to include a photo mode at launch and given how visually stunning Village is set to be, there is no doubt that the photo mode will be warmly welcomed by many.

Village is said to be the conclusion of Winters’ story, as he and franchise favourite, Chris Redfield, travel to an eerie village rife with werewolves and vampires, with Lady Dimitrescu and her blood-sucking ‘daughters’ set to partake in an occult ritual.

The full game launches on May 7 while a *working* demo is reportedly on the cards as well. For now, players can rest easy knowing that they won’t have to break their HDDs to accommodate the game.
