AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX can boost up to 3.2 GHz w/ 650W Power Draw

The Liquid Devil AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX is one of the premium variants of the RDNA3-based GPU. It is priced even higher than the NVIDIA RTX 4090 at a whopping 1819 USD. The high-end model includes a fully custom PCB design and an EK water block to cover the whole GPU, VRAM, and the 17-phase VRM design.

Youtuber @der8auer tested out the overclocking venture for the Liquid Devil AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX using an EVC module to achieve a clock speed close to 3050 MHz with the power capped at 500W. The graphics card comes with a 2510 MHz (Game) and 2680 MHz (Boost) clock.

With the final settings, the Youtuber stated that the Radeon RX 7900 XTX could easily hit its power limit. The graphics card can overclock up to 3.2 GHz or 3244 MHz while the power draw was noted to be around 650W. That’s twice the standard TBP i.e., 355W. 

In comparison to this behemoth, the stock AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX OC seems like its miniature version. The OC graphics card can go up to 2615 MHz (Boost Clock) and 2455 MHz (Game Clock). In default mode, its boost clock was reported at 2565 MHz while the Game Clock touched 2395 MHz.

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX touched a graphics score of 17700 in the 3DMark Time Spy Extreme benchmark, placing it at 13th in the Hall of Fame. In terms of gaming performance, the GPU peaked at 3.4 GHz.

Currently, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 tops the leaderboard with the highest clock speed, almost close to 4 GHz, achieved on LN2 cooling, and over 3.3 GHz on liquid cooling. The RTX 4090 scored 20,192 points in the 3DMark Time Spy Extreme test with a boost of 3015 MHz.

While the Radeon RX 7900 XTX can deliver a boost between 3.4-3.5 GHz, it does prove that the graphics card has incredible potential which can be unlocked by tweaking the power limits. No matter what AMD’s stance on power limits and clocks is, it sure is fun to play around with a powerful card as such.
