Rumor: Trailer for God of War Ragnarok to Drop Next Month

The follow-up to 2018’s mega-hit God of War was first teased last year. However, since then, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and developer Sony Santa Monica have been extremely quiet on all things regarding the new title.

As a result, there is not much confirmed on the game (even the title – God of War: Ragnarok – is fan-made) except for the release period, which is 2022. Additionally, we also know that the game will be cross-gen, i.e., arrive for both PS4 and PS5.

The game was touted to make an appearance at PlayStation’s July State of Play event, but it turned out that the July 8 event was focused on Deathloop and indie titles. However, PlayStation did specify that we will see more updates for the next God of War and Horizon Forbidden West over the summer.

Now, rumors about a God of War trailer dropping next month have begun making rounds.

According to Redditor QuimSix, who is best known for leaking the Far Cry 6 trailer and the date for PlayStation’s State of Play event, the trailer will be showcased at a PlayStation event, most likely at the State of Play.

They also stated that the event would include an update for Horizon Forbidden West and a reveal for the new-gen GTA 5. However, it’s important to note that this is all conjecture at the moment. So rein in that excitement a bit until Sony makes it official.

God of War: Ragnarok was initially supposed to come out this year, but the Covid-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on Sony Santa Monica’s development schedules. So, the release had to be pushed to next year.

Seeing how God of War (2018) ended, the game will most likely kick off the events of Ragnarok, which, according to Norse mythology, leads to the destruction of the Norse pantheon. Naturally, our favorite father-son duo Kratos and Atreus, will have a significant part to play.

A concept artist from Sony Santa Monica has also hinted that we might get to play as Atreus in the new game.
