7Archer
The Archer class primarily focuses on dealing with ranged damage and is an excellent support companion for any team. While its damage is relatively low compared to other classes, it has access to skills like Valorous Support, Barrage, and Precision, which can help close the damage gap when used correctly.
However, the archer is only effective during the early-game stages of the Wartales campaign. As the game progresses, the Archer becomes weaker against more challenging enemies, and the disadvantage of potentially hitting allied units compounds its effectiveness issues.
6Ranger
The Ranger specializes in using daggers and throwing weapons to make quick work of its foes. This class also has access to some of the best damage-dealing skills in Wartales, including Wrath, Frenzy, Cold Blooded, and Unstoppable.
However, when positioned near allies, the Ranger only outshines, which triggers its passive abilities. Also, avoiding one-on-one fights is recommended, as it is easily overwhelmed by most enemy types.
5Tactician
The Tactician is a deadly class that excels at dealing damage through poison and other status effects. It draws inspiration from the rogue archetype, wielding daggers and other close-range weapons.
It pairs perfectly with skills like Forced Disengagement and Lawful Fervour to maximize opportunities to strike each turn and introduce more status effects such as confusion.
However, the Tactician lacks the defense necessary to survive direct hits, and its effectiveness is highly dependent on positioning to set up sneak attacks.
4Spearman
The Spearman is among the best Wartales classes, specializing in long-range weaponry and party support. This class actively avoids engagements and focuses on buffing nearby allies with each turn.
The Spearman is most effective when positioned close to Brutes, Swordsmen, and Warriors, which may benefit from passives like Valorous Support, Change of Pace, and Team Spirit. The Spearman also fulfills the role of healer quite well and can maintain order on the battlefield by knocking back opponents.
3Brute
The Brute class is a powerhouse that excels at dealing significant damage to multiple enemies simultaneously. With skills like Wrath, Destroyer, and Armor Breaker, the Brute can engage in combat at any chance and lends itself to more aggressive playstyles.
However, the Brute takes as many hits as it dishes out, meaning heavy armor is essential for keeping this class alive. Additionally, the Brute thrives only when positioned at the frontlines, ensuring its AoE attacks and two-handed weapons reach as many targets as possible.
2Swordsman
The Swordsman class shares similarities with the Brute playstyle; the only difference is its weapon of choice. Leveraging a sharp blade ensures the Swordsman deals consistently severe damage with each attack while affording flexibility through skills such as Defensive Stance, Hardcore Training, and Zeal.
The flexibility through skills allows the Swordsman to operate as an attacker and tank, depending on the player’s preferred tactics and build. The Swordsman also can administer First Aid to heal allies or remove poison, bleeding, and burn debuffs.
1Warrior
The Warrior is the best class in Wartales. It is versatile and can deal close-range melee damage while acting as a shield for other party members. With a heavy axe as its go-to weapon, the Warrior can deal considerable damage and hold its own against groups of enemies.
However, the Warrior has to rely on skills like Berserker and Alacrity along with medium armor to raise its defense and ensure it can tank a few hits before answering back with a fatal axe strike.
