Cyberpunk 2077 Will Cost Gamers In Brazil 25% Of Their Income?

A Redditor recently claimed that many people in Brazil would have to give away almost 25% of their salary if they wish to get their hands on a copy of Cyberpunk 2077!

It doesn’t really come off as a surprise anymore when people say that the hobby/profession of gaming is slowly becoming more and more expensive as the days pass us by, turning it into something pretty much inaccessible for a majority of people in the world.’

Though new consoles are always affordable for most, it’s the games that pose a tiny bit of a problem. I mean, just take a look at how the price of next-gen titles has been hiked from the standard $60 to $70.

Also, if we consider the rate of these new, $60-70 games being released almost every other week, it’s safe to say that almost everyone will be sacrificing on one game over the other every time. But that, too, is okay to some extent.

But, what should we do when a single video game costs us a quarter of our income? Redditor the_kandra seems to have claimed that to be the case with Brazil as, even though the country is quite prominent in gaming, it suffers from severe poverty.

According to them, Brazilians will have to sacrifice 25% of their monthly income for a single copy of Cyberpunk 2077. Let’s not forget to mention that their study’s results are being compared to a $60 video game, not taking into account something like the Demon’s Souls remake, which can cost $10 extra.

Here’s what they originally posted on r/cyberpunkgame:

As you can see, and as the_kandra stated, “Here, the minimum wage is around R$1045, that is, roughly U$200. A copy of Cyberpunk 2077 in Brazil costs around R$250, or 1/4 of your monthly income.”

Then again, the guy’s (or gal) comparing the minimum wage of a country with the price of the game, which is totally not a correct comparison.

I mean, just think about it, if a person is earning the stated minimum wage of any country, it means that they’re barely earning enough to have a roof over their heads and eat properly. Even if games are indeed becoming pricier, they’ve always required more than a minimum wage to be affordable. However, if this were the mean monthly income of people in Brazil, it’d have been an entirely different story, but that’s not the case.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that it’s acceptable for games to become more expensive. That part still sucks. I hope the day doesn’t come when games become expensive to the extent that they’re taking a quarter of our actual mean.

Well, even though games are becoming pricier as we speak and will continue to be like this for who knows how long, at least we have something like the Game Pass from Microsoft, that still allows for a ton of gaming at a reasonable monthly subscription rate.

That said, I don’t think that buying Cyberpunk will be an issue for gamers in Brazil, but I do believe that many will agree with me when I say that the increase in the prices of video games is undoubtedly frustrating.

Also, someone, please explain the difference between minimum wage and average monthly wage to the Redditor. Thank you Redditor, very cool!
