Going to LA, being in the same room as your favorite developers while they flaunt the mind-boggling things they’ve been working at is a thing of the past now. Following in the footsteps of E3 2021, this year’s E3 will not be conducting live events as well, unfortunately.
The ESA (Entertainment Software Association) announced that E3 2022 would be an online-only event as Omicron threats loom large across the United States and the rest of the world. This news marks the third straight year where E3 opted for a digital conference due to a spike in COVID cases.
Due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022,ESA
We remain incredibly excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon.ESA
Since E3 is usually held in June, many feel that the call to scratch plans for an in-person event was made too early. But from an organizer’s perspective, playing this card made the most sense so as to help gaming companies save money on E3 booths that may never take shape.
Prevention is better than cure, they say, after all.
On top of this, we also do not know which companies have signed up for the event. Last year we saw giants like Ubisoft, Gearbox Software, Microsoft, Square Enix, the PC Gaming Show, Capcom, and Nintendo getting involved and leaving enthusiasts amazed. There’s a good possibility that these companies will come back this year.
But all things considered, we can also witness giants of the gaming industry skipping E3 and hosting their own game shows instead, like Sony.
But given the recognization that publishers received at E3 2021, I would expect most big names to appear this time as well. Who doesn’t want attention after all?
