Jason Blum working on GameStop Movie at HBO

While the GameStop WallStreetBets saga continues, studios are already hard at work, immortalizing the unprecedented phenomenon which took the internet by storm. A new movie project based on the events is being developed at HBO with well-known producer Jason Blum (Insidious, Sinister) and American journalist, author and co-creator of the TV show Billions Andrew Ross Sorkin.

The GameStop stock short situation has been major news for the past couple of weeks, and while it doesn’t seem like it will end any time soon, the content it’s provided has been priceless. From umpteen memes to baffled billionaires appearing on TV news. Many saw this as the average person finally going against the top 1% of society, and hitting them where it hurts; their wallets.

According to The Wrap, Blumhouse Productions will be backing the project and HBO films President Len Amato will act as the executive producer. Rumours state that the film will be scripted in a manner and style similar to The Big Short and The Social Network.

Aside from this project, other movies on the GameStop story are also in the works. Netflix too has a project planned with Noah Centineo and the movie from MGM will be based on a book by Ben Mezrich, author of the book which inspired The Social Network.

The rumour mill is working overtime with regards to how this situation is going to pan out towards the end, but that hasn’t stopped these studios from starting to work on their stories. People are going to be spoiled for choice when it comes to watching movie adaptations for an understanding of the scenario, from a theatre experience to DTH streaming services. One thing is certain, the eyes of the world are on the people from the WallStreetBets subreddit and Wall Street itself.
