A New IP from Famed Publisher Behind Max Payne Gets a Release Date!

Developed by OrangePixel and published by the legendary Apogee Entertainment, Residual is set to make a landing on Steam for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on Thursday, September 9.

Sony’s PS4 and PS5 will also get the game later this year.

Imagine you have crash-landed on an unknown, procedurally generated alien world with advanced technology but no signs of human life at all. Despite being an intrepid explorer, even you know how dumb this move was!

But this is no time to wallow in self-pity. The key here is to muster up all the courage, stiff that upper lip, and SURVIVE!

Residual puts you in the shoes of a fearless spacefarer who’s willing to do anything to repair his spaceship and go back home.

You must be thinking all I have to do is repair my spaceship, right? After figuring out how the tech in Residual works, you can restore your spaceship to its former glory, go home, and have a cool story to tell at parties.

But all this is easier said than done!

It’ll take blood, sweat, and tears to survive in the game.

Residual

Before returning to the known galaxy, you will have to go against changing weather, malicious flora and unwrap the deep mysteries of the planet’s long-lost alien civilization.

Developed using the new Nature engine, Residual “allows for whole planets to be procedurally generated based on a set of nature rules.” Therefore, the environment is going to influence the lifeforms present on each planet.

Expect every region to add myriad climatic twists to the game. The pattering of stinging rains, bone-chilling cold, and scorching heatwaves will deplete any resource that your pixelated body houses.

That being said, Residual is not a game for dimwits.

You will have to creatively solve puzzles, harvest food, seek refuge, craft resources, and formulate effective strategies for keeping your soul and body together.

Residual also lets you choose between a male, female, or non-binary protagonist who is supported by the quirkiest sarcasm-filled robot sidekick: your Personal Disaster Bot, Pedey-B!

Residual invites players to tell their own survival stories in a forgotten galaxy where no two planets are exactly alike,” explains Pascal Bestebroer, the sole developer of studio OrangePixel.

Sharing stories from our gaming is the best part of this business, so it was very important to me that Residual come to many different platforms and have options for a gentler survival adventure.

What makes Residual stand out in my eyes is that there is no room for violence in the game. Even with the game brimming with hostility, you can’t use weapons or resort to any sort of brutality. It’s a combat-free game!

All in all, it can be concluded that Residual is definitely a breath of fresh air. Every enthusiast of procedural sci-fi survival games must mark their calendars and go out on this unpredictable adventure.
